Hi. Where did you get your stats of 95% of restaurants add 20% service charge to their bills. I lived in miami beach 25 years and i know this is inaccurate. Also you have a choice to charge service charge which is mandatory for cutomers to pay and sure it gets taxed as it is part of your revenue or use a more cutomer friendly option of tip which is optional if the customer is happy with the service and he/she is 20% happy with the service. In the case of tip it is not considered revenue and does not get taxed. As you said some restaurants do not pass on the entire service charge to their staff. Do you? Just so you know i was happy with the service but 18% happy but i had no choice because the service charge is mandatory. It seems choosing service charge over tip you are disservicing both customers (no choice but to pay 20%) and staff (you dont need to pay it all to them). Just saying!
Hello i am adding a response to yours. Yes i am doing this after a month, thats ok. You do have some good points, i must say, so i raised the stars to 4. Why not 5? Well, you can use "additional tip" so people know tip is included. Yes, i know you have it elsewhere. Why 20% and not 18%? And finally according to the IRS website " Tips are discretionary (optional or extra) payments determined by a customer that employees receive from customers" and so IRS does not consider it as revenue of the resturant but it considers it as income of the emplyee. So why do you charge the customers tax on tips?
I like Mickey Burkes. It is a cozy and warm place with plenty of screens to watch sports. So why 3 stars, you ask. Long gone the days when a tip was the measure of how satisfied you were with the service. I have watched the tips at restaurants go from voluntary amounts to 15%, 18%, and now 20% auto tip added to yout check. And if you are not careful, you get tricked into tipping on top of the 20% tip when your credit card merchant copy comes back to your table for you to sign with a line saying tip! Ok, here is something new to add to my tipping experience over the years. The 20% auto tip is calculated on the pre discounted happy hour amount! Ok, i always left extra if i got a discount to make up for the difference, but i want to do that, not you. And then the good old put tax after the tip trick. You dont pay tax on tip, and i dont want to pay for your income tax either! I just hate to be...
Read moreWe visited during week 1 of the NCAA football season. We arrived a little past halftime of the noon game. There was not a free seat in the place. Wall to wall people, many of them standing making it impossible to walk through.
There were 0 servers to be seen. There was no door attendant. We waited about 20 mins before we saw any staff of any sort, and we had to grab their arm to get their attention as they were paying no mind to the now 15 person line waiting inside the door.
This place was SEVERELY understaffed. Maybe 200 people per 1 server.
We were told 10-15 mins for a table, but after another 20 mins, we found 2 empty seats at a random table and sat ourselves next to others (who didn't mind). Once we flagged the same server down after about 10 more mins of waiting for her to come by, we finally ordered a beer and a mixed drink. After another 10 mins, the server reported back that they didn't have that beer. I ordered another (I wanted the 16 oz, the server said they only serve that beer in 20 oz, despite listing both sizes on the menu) and after another 10 mins the drinks finally arrived. The beer was in a 16 oz glass (and we were charged for the 20 oz).
We ordered food at that point, which took about 20 mins to arrive, which was acceptable given the packed house.
The food was ok (chicken sliders with a little heat and a side of fries). The atmosphere was very lively, with rival fans cheering big plays. High fives were had, and taunts were made.
Overall, unless you're a local and know the management to get a seat, or get there and wait for it to open to rush to a table/couch, I would find somewhere else to watch a game on a football Saturday or Sunday, because you'll be pretty frustrated waiting for someone to acknowledge your existence at this...
Read moreHello MB Team and other Restaurant searchers, I just left Mickey Burkes around 25 minutes ago and my wife and I would like to explain our recent visit. We eat out a lot and also eat and hang out at Mickey Burkes often especially on Bingo night, Trivia night, and Kareoke Friday nights. We even just had dinner on Friday night there. Great time, but this particular experience is worth sharing. My wife and I sat and down after being at the beach. We sat at a table with our stuff and I walked to the bar to order burgers and ordered one of the deals⊠really light beer and a shot. Why did I make that mistakeâŠ
The restaurant only had one other customer there. The bartender who is currently working 7pm August 10th, looked at me rudely for even asking for that deal. I told her I always order it and just ordered it two days ago at dinner. Itâs a great primer deal to start a normal night of drinks. She said itâs NEVER been a deal, it doesnât make sense to have that deal. She responded with an energy of every experience Iâve had up to than had never happened. Her attitude was unbelievable rude while I was speaking nicely to her. I was there for the good burgers I always have. As if to doubt her, I was disrespecting her. She even said at the end âso are you staying or are you leavingââŠ. I responded with âwe will be leaving, thank youâ. Mickey burckes is a great restaurant with amazing employees, a lot of the guys are cool. Mady is awesome as well, she goes the extra mile to give great service. But one rotten apple really messed up my wifeâs and I Image of this establishment. All my wife and I are asking is to not treat people like this. You guys are better than this. Nobody should be beneath someone else. Clearly we were...
