Sometimes you take a chance on a restaurant based solely on the type of food it serves. We did so with Toni's Sushi and we were well- rewarded.
My wife, daughter, baby grandson and I dined at Toni's.
The atmosphere of Toni's Sushi is slightly dark, intimate, clean and comfortable. The servers are excellent, responding to questions and there when needed without ever getting in the way.
My wife started with the Miso Soup, which was exactly what she'd hoped for. I never had Nameko mushrooms, so I opted the Nameko Miso Soup. I really liked the Mushroom and Scallion complement to the Miso Soup.
Our grandson enjoyed the Miso Eggplant. My daughter chose the Spider Roll, a Fresh Scallop Hand Roll and a Dreaming Shrimp Roll. She loved each of those dishes. The Dreaming Shrimp Roll was most interesting, as it is a "Rice outside roll with masago, shrimp tempura, lettuce and curry mayo." As the usage of the curry mayo was not heavy-handed, the dish was a winner.
My wife ordered the Chirashi Roll, comprised of "tuna, salmon, hamachi, shiso, avocado, microgreen, kizami wasabi, tempura flakes, yuzu mayo, sesame." It tasted so fresh and full of flavor - it exceeded our expectations. So too did the Vegetable with Hot Udon.
I ordered Sashimi - Aburi Toro, the prized fatty part of Tuna, so good, and Amaebi, Sweet Shrimp, also wonderful. I also chose the Norweigan Roll, made up of "salmon, kanikama, cucumber, scallion, mayo, ikura on top." High praise for that dish!
As with many restaurants in the Miami Beach area, a 20% service charge was tacked on to the bill.
With such flavorful raw and cooked options,Toni's Sushi Bar is a worthwhile dinner choice. We will return there when next we visit Miami...

Read moreSushi is one of my favorite foods. Living in Miami for the last three years I have heard of Toni's from a few locals and finally decided to give it a try. As a few of the other reviews have stated, this place is definitely overrated. I was very disappointed considering their reputation and price. I ordered three rolls (Norwegian, Samurai, Jalapeno) and they all came with minced fish. Not sure if that's just how they do it or because it was a take-out order, but it's not stated on the menu that it's minced. If I was dining in I would send it back or refuse to pay for it, but since I drove down from North Beach I wasn't going back. The rolls were not good and one came with salmon roe which didn't seem very fresh. But to make it better they gave me 16 packets of soy sauce. I don't use soy sauce.
Judging by the photos on Yelp, which I should've looked at first, it appears that a lot of the rolls come with minced fish.. why is that??? I could recommend a few things for you to do with that minced fish [slime] but you might not like it
Maybe their sashimi is better but I'm completely turned off now, save your money and look elsewhere. First and last time for me.
PS. Here are a few places I would recommend: Katana in northbeach, Yakko-San by Sunny Isles, definitely Zuma if downtown (but it's expensive), or Shibui if...
