Arrived for the first time to try "100 Montaditos". Drove all the way from Palm Beach County to try this tapas style restaurant in Miami Midtown Shops.
Let me start by saying that the main purpose and success of a restaurant is Customer Service. Well, unfortunately this "100 Montaditos" fell way below the minimum requirement to meet that standard.
We were a party of 8 and the server took our order. The restaurant was not busy perhaps only two other small tables filling the restaurant. Super hip, right? Well not so much.
We ordered a few montaditos about 8 ( the very small portion of sandwich that is about 5 inches in length) Just enough for a few bites, an order of chicken wings, a salad and a tabla mixta which is a wooden board with a few cuts of cheese, ham, spanish tortilla, and bread. Well one of the montaditos - the sausage was raw, hardly edible. In addition to the sub par customer service, our server decided to bring the orders at random, each of our party having to wait to eat their food. Well they forgot about two orders, which left the hungry kids without dinner. When we asked our server, he said the order was in. After a second inquiry, another server said we had already eaten our meal. Which was completely false. Then another server came by and put forth the excuse that the kitchen backed up and made a mistake, but the servers had not. What a bunch of nonsense!
When they finally brought out the missing food items, the food was cold. When the check finally came, it was for over $100!
We still got screwed. They didn't take the uncooked raw montadito sausage plate off the bill. I guess this place doesn't get the customer service aspect of things.
Too bad. They lost a customer. And many,...
Read moreI have never been to a Spanish restaurant—in America, Spain, or Peru—that lacks the essence of “everything you could call Spanish.” I should have known better when I saw only two other tables occupied at 7 PM on a Thursday night. However, since I was craving a taste of Spain, I decided to give it a try.
The menu at the entrance displayed some rice dishes (paellas), wine, and 100 tapas, along with their prices. I went inside and was given a different menu. When I asked for the one from outside, they handed it to me, and I ordered one tapa, one rice dish, and a glass of wine.
When I noticed the price was incorrect, I asked why there was a difference. The cashier informed me that they had to change the price and that the old price was no longer valid. I didn’t want to argue; I was hungry- Big mistake!
The wine was terrible. I expressed my dissatisfaction, so they gave me another glass, which was almost the same. The black rice with calamari was undercooked, very oily, and over-seasoned. If I could count five rings of calamari, it would be too much. The tortilla de papa montadito had no flavor—mostly bread with a small bite of tortilla inside.
Finally, my husband and I ate what we could, but after a couple of hours, we both had upset stomachs and a strong taste of onions and rancidness in our mouths.
The ambiance was cold, with no good music. There were two people working, doing the jobs of cashiers, servers, and bussers all at once. Fortunately, including our table, there were only three tables occupied at the time.
I really wouldn’t recommend this place for food or wine. I found it very disappointing and lacking in both food quality...
Read moreGreat concept! Very unique: not quite a bar, not quite a tapas restaurant, not quite a fast food joint. I ordered 3 sandwiches and some olives on the side. Very tasty. And great variety. The place is very casual, but clean and well appointed. Barcelona's Estella Beer right on tap. Though I don't think they have anything but a few selections of beer. I didn't see drinks, or more importantly wine, on the menu. Wine would have been a great idea. But, the price was VERY reasonable overall.
I think you have to have the right mindset going in. The value for the buck is great here, but the quality of the food, while very tasty, is not quite Spanish Tapas as you'd get in Barcelona. The olives are basic Spanish olives from a jar, the anchovies are from a can, the iced tea is bottled, etc. But the sandwiches are indeed really tasty, even if not from the best ingredients on earth. But they range in price from $1 - $3. What does one expect for a $2 sandwich?
A few Google complaints about the "bread to meat" ratio. I didn't find that to be the case. I thought the sandwiches were very well balanced. I would say that while a super value, if you are truly "food buffet" hungry, note that these sandwiches are on the small side. Think a typical slider. I guess you could spend a little more than expected if you are a voracious eater.
I'll will happily visit the 34 more times that it will take to...
