First time in Miami and The Cocinita Miami immediately jumped out. Just a quick hop on the free Metromover to the chic Brickell neighborhood one over, and the delicious promise of vegan arepas. And I end up getting a burger. Look, let me just get this out now, the people in Miami are gorgeous and when the person taking your order smiles a welcome to Miami and recommends a burger, you order a burger. Apparently, I’m not above that. In my defense, the burgers looked gorgeous too. The Cocinita Miami is tucked in on 5th street, but the bright happy yellow of the window is hard to miss. When you order inside, you’ll be surrounded by herb planters and mushroom gardens. And when you take your number to a table outside, you’ll be surrounded by raised planters of kale, tomatoes, and peppers creating a makeshift patio around you. How cool is that? Look, the burger was good, maybe slightly oversauced—they are not subtle here, but I came for arepas. So please, do me a favor, when you do come to the Cocinita, order the burger for me and two arepas. You won’t regret it.

This place is a sneaky contender for being one of the best vegan spots in Miami. It doesn’t look like much at first - kind of like a smoothie bar that happens to also serve burgers and burritos - but it’s really so much more. We love Latin flavors and also seek healthy, macrobiotic type meals with plenty of beans, grains, and veggies. We were able to get exactly this type of food by customizing some of the classics: the Mexican bowl and the green bowl. They make customizations easy including healthy options like substituting brown rice or quinoa for the white rice. The more we inspected their menu, the more pleasant surprises we discovered, such as the whole grain arepas made with flax and chia seeds and moringa (revolutionary!) and the baked plantains (a rarity). As if the great food weren’t enough, we were astonished to find that they carry a hyperlocal kombucha made by Dr. Simon that we have yet to find anywhere else. And it was delicious! We loved the peach flavor and kept going back for more.

I love this place. We discovered it last year and love to visit it when we are in the area (we live in Fort Lauderdale). But today, really blew me away and I just want to share my experience. We had a really crappy morning due to a problem at Miami airport with our flight, resulting in us having to drive to Fort Lauderdale airport to get another flight. Nothing was really going right. We show up at Cocinita for some yummy vegan eats, and they were closed for another hour (we thought they opened at 10 AM). We turned around to leave, and the sweetest guy at the counter says, if you give me a few minutes I will fire up my fryer and get you whatever you need. We were so thankful, and so relieved. He not only got us our order 15 minutes later, but included a free piece of cake inside to make us feel better for our crappy morning. KINDNESS!!! I am so thankful for this kind man. He really put a smile on me and my daughters face. It is unfortunately so rare to meet kinds people nowadays. He is proof how beautiful a human really is, in this tough world. Thank you, SO much for being so kind to us. You have a customer...

I recently moved to Miami and have been checking out all the vegan/vegetarian options. I will definitely be going back to this place. I had the Yummy Burger and the Perrito (sausage). With the burger, the combo with the cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and sauces was 👌. I was happy to have the cheese. I am normally not a fan of vegan cheeses unless it’s specifically made with nuts (the ones I see in the stores have a weird artificial taste, imo). I forgot to say to leave the cheese off but it turned out really good and makes me want to explore more vegan cheeses since things have been processing in the area in recent years. The only complaint, if you want to call it that, is that the burger is a beyond burger. They should just say that instead of listing it as a pea protein burger. Minor thing but even though it worked out, I wasn’t really in the mood for a beyond burger at the time. The Perrito fortunately is what I think to be an in house sausage. This was also very good and the combination of toppings works out without any one overpowering the flavor. I’m very glad to see full vegan places...

My wife and I live in Michigan and we visited The Cocinita Miami on 5/25/22 while on vacation. We eat whole plant foods (WFPB) with no added oil, and so seldom eat out (commercial preparations are processed foods loaded with added oil, salt and sugar) but look for the best vegan options when we travel. I read all the Cocinita reviews that were less than 4 stars, yes even the one with the roach story!. We arrived about 9PM. The place was hopping with in person dining and take out orders. In a short time we were seated, our server was dynamic, engaging and warm. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing. The food (2 yummy burgers with the sauces on the side, plantain and lentil soup) arrived in less than 15 minutes. It was hot and fresh, portion sizes were good, lots of flavor-my wife said "this is the best vegan burger I have had"- and we have had many. If my wife said it was good, then it was!!. There was one negative: the register attendant-friendly and knowledgeable-tried to upsell bottled water. No hard feelings. We would visit again, however, in Miami there are many vegan options...
