I contacted the management/reservation 3 times. No reply so I posting my complaint here:
I am writing to share my recent experience at Hutong Miami, which unfortunately left me quite disappointed. As a frequent patron, having visited your establishment approximately 25 times, I felt compelled to express my concerns.
My friends and I had made a reservation for 7:45 pm and arrived promptly at 7:50 pm. Upon arrival, we were offered a table in a high-traffic area, which we declined due to its undesirable location. Instead, we kindly requested seating in the main room, where we have previously enjoyed our visits. However, we were asked to wait at the bar. After a 35-minute wait, we were finally seated at a smaller table in the main room. Although not ideal, we accepted this compromise to salvage the evening.
Regrettably, the ambiance was far from enjoyable. The music volume was excessively loud (usually starting like 9 pm), inhibiting conversation and the lighting on our side of the restaurant was inadequate, rendering both the menu and our surroundings nearly invisible. Resorting to using our phones to read the menu was not the experience we had hoped for.
We inquired about a table light, but were informed that they were in short supply. Although we eventually received one, it only functioned for a brief period like 5 minutes. This further added to our frustration.
Our beverage order was also mishandled. We requested Coca-Cola with lemon, yet the lemon was missing upon arrival. Moreover, the lemon was provided on a piece of paper rather than a proper plate, which detracted from the overall presentation and quality of the dining experience.
Moving on to the food, our disappointment continued. The crispy eggplant was neither crispy nor warm, instead being oily and cold. The wagyu dim sum, a dish we have previously enjoyed, was disappointing this time. The pastry overshadowed the meat, and it was evident that the dish was undercooked. The Sechuan lobsters tasted oily and reminiscent of old frying oil. The only redeeming aspect was the fried rice, which was satisfactory.
To make matters worse, the free ice cream ball provided for my birthday contained ice pieces, significantly impacting the dessert's enjoyment. The restaurant's overwhelming aroma, possibly due to the Miami Spice event, left our clothes and hair smelling like a cheap Asian kitchen.
I have always appreciated the friendly service from your staff, and I must highlight the excellent service provided by our waiter on this occasion as well. However, I must stress that the overall experience was far from satisfactory. Given my previous positive experiences, I refrained from leaving a negative review on platforms like Google, but I believe it is fair to request some form of compensation in light of this disappointing visit. (this changed)
I paid a total of $285 for the meal, along with a $42 tip. While I understand that unexpected issues can arise, I genuinely believe that this experience was not reflective of the quality I have come to associate with Hutong.
Still no callback or email reply. This new management is strange. I opened the dispute by the bank,...
Read moreI would like to share a recent experience my family and I had at Hutong Brickell, a restaurant we've frequented many times as local residents in the area. While I understand that dining with a toddler can be challenging, I believe it's essential to highlight our recent visit with the hope of promoting a more inclusive and accommodating dining environment for all patrons. Last week, for the first time, we decided to bring our 2-year-old daughter along with her grandparent to enjoy a meal at Hutong. She was seated comfortably, engrossed in her meal, and occasionally amused by videos on a device. At times, like any child, she made sounds and laughter, but there was no crying or disruptive behavior. Our visit took place during a late lunch when the restaurant was sparsely occupied, with only a few other patrons seated, and none in close proximity to our table. To our surprise, we noticed an elderly couple at the opposite end of the restaurant, and the lady began to stare intently in our direction, appearing displeased. Her actions culminated in her summoning the manager, whom we assumed she was complaining to about us! We were subsequently approached by a female manager who conveyed the complaint, stating, "The older couple at the back is distressed by your child's presence, even though I personally did not witness any disruptive behavior." What saddened us most was not the elderly couple's discomfort as obviously she was a sad bitter human being that I can just pray for her, as we believe in accommodating diverse clientele, but rather the restaurant management's decision to address their concerns by approaching our table. We were paying guests, just like any other patrons, and could not find any restaurant policy excluding children from dining. While we acknowledge that children can sometimes act disruptively in public places, this was not the case during our visit. We believe that the restaurant's staff should be better trained in handling such situations, and it would have been more appropriate for the manager to inform the complaining patron that children are indeed welcome at the establishment. Ultimately, this incident has left us with a sour impression, and we feel compelled to share our experience. We have decided not to return to Hutong Brickell, and we've shared our experience with friends and neighbors, some of whom may reconsider dining here due to the unfortunate handling of this situation. We hope that this review will contribute to a more respectful and inclusive dining atmosphere for all guests,...
