We first tried this place about a year ago when we found out about their owners hiring a Japanese guy to launch their ramen menu. It was excellent and we were overjoyed to find a decent authentic ramen experience in Miami of all places having moved to Miami only recently. We've been back a few times since and it seems to me the quality and authenticity has gone down each time culminating with our latest visit where it was, sadly, a shell of its former self. Not sure if their consulting chef is still associated with the place but if he is, he really needs to fix things because the tonkotsu ramen was almost inedible. Even my Japanese wife had given it the seal of approval in our first visit but with our last visit, she has vowed never to return and I must reluctantly agree. The broth is what makes ramen legit and in their case, it seems they have either cut corners, changed chefs, or switched to using instant because what we tried recently is nothing like what we tried the first time. Oh well, just another notch in a long line of cautionary tales about the lifecycle of a restaurant in the food industry. And for those who continue to give this place positive reviews, you clearly have not tried good authentic Japanese ramen. Hint: Don't use Ippudo in NYC as your benchmark, they are a massive disappointment compared to their...
Read moreWe wanted to grab a drink before the show at James L. Knight, and we are a little hungry too. with a little search of places we both had tagged and wanted to get to, Baby Jane at least was a match geographically. It is in fact, right across the bridge from the theater, so about a 5 minute walk. When we arrived it was only 4ish and I think that was to our benefit. There was no lunch or dinner crowd yet. We grabbed a great lounging table outside and got a couple of beverages. We weren't sure what we were going to get but once we saw the Tonkotsu ramen, it was obvious. We are always down for some good ramen with pork broth. With a couple bowl of ramen ordered, we added on a "Betty Davis" and another fancy drink. They came out fast. Once again mine was the girly looking one, that seems to be happening a lot this month. They were both great drinks, with thoughtful presentation. The ramen came out soon after, and was delicious. We are picky on ramen when we eat out, and I can say it was top-o-the-line. Excellent. Along with excellent service by multiple servers, it couldn't have been better. When we wanted to he check to get going, it came out in a hurry. Over all, it was a solid experience. I'm sure when we are in the neighborhood again, maybe to see a show, at least we know a go-to spot for...
Read moreThe only reason I am giving them a poor rating is hopefully the owner will see it and learn what bad managment his restaurant is under. I am a local and go to baby jane at least once or twice a week maybe even more. I have been pushed to the limit and do not feel like going again because of the bad service. It is not the staffs fault, the waiters and bartenders are extremely nice and efficient. The problem is that they get packed and only have ONE server most of the time. I thought there wasnt a manager on site ever because of this mess but recently learned there actually is one! And what was he doing while eveyone was complaining about the wait, service and his waiter running like crazy to please everyone? He was drinking and eating with his friends in a booth! He was visibly drunk later on that night. Being in the food and beverage industry this is extremely rare and if he was my manager I would immediately fire him. I myself was a manager, now owner and if this happens I help out taking food or picking dirty plates up. This place has exceptional food. The best buns in town ever since Gigi’s closed down in my personal opinion. They are the only place in Brickell that is open late serving food and drinks also. It is sad to see a place with such potential losing so many customers...
