This is our second time here. We came back because we are becoming students of preparing Neapolitan pizza .. an art unto itself. We ordered the Ilario pizza. The roasted Italian sausage was outstanding! The tomato sauce was sumptuous. Cheese was delightful. The signature bubbled rim of the crust was done to perfection. The inner part of the crust was “doughy.” This is where we are stuck with learning about Neapolitan pizza that is wood-fired. It is our understanding that Neapolitans eat pizza with fork and knife. So, our pizza was probably properly prepared.
We ordered tiramisu… a disappointment. San Giorgio is touted for its pizza. Obligatory Italian desserts enter the picture. The tiramisu was happily not too sweet and mildly coffee-flavored. However, it did not deserve to be dressed with what tasted like canned whipped cream and Hershey’s syrup. There was an errant chocolate mini-morsel on our plate. It was tasteless.
We’ll be back. Loved the bar and great draft beer selection. Staff were excellent!! Had a great time!
On to Carini’s to see...
Read moreJust stopped in for dinner before the Bucks/Celtics game 4/10/24...i have absolutely been at better Napoletana pizzerias. Positives were a strong beer and wine offering, but the negatives were what you are there for...the food...Our party of 4 people shared one pizza - (they are quite small - two people tops) an order of their gnocchi (i think it was a special that night)- they were good, definitely not great. A single appetizer meatball that was tasty but very dry, and a Salad which was also ...good. Server was great -- but The PRICES!!!! YIKES....I was amazed we left there dropping $250. The estimate of 30-50$ per person is on the low side--we barely ate anything. We were told to order 3 pizzas minimum by our server, which would be true for the amount of food to feed the group - however, we would have blown through $350 easy. Sorry, but the quality of the food does NOT match the price being charged. My wife is a home chef and I am used to better home-made pasta than this. Too many other great food places in Milwaukee --...
Read moreLove this restaurant. Tried it on a whim this week and I can say it’s the best pizza I’ve had in a long time. It’s true fire oven Neapolitan pizza—the sauce was not sweet, it’s definitely made with fresh sauce which is important. I would’ve preferred the basil included at the end because it did get burnt which is a personal preference. I tried the margarita pizza, a lightly dressed salad of greens and the bruschetta. The bruschetta was divine-worth getting just by itself and was so fresh and full of flavor. I took a tiramisu to go, and it was delicious, you can tell it’s made from scratch and was quite delicious. I give this a 10/10 but deducted one star as I was given a dirty fork in my pre-rolled napkin and when I asked for a replacement I was given another dirty one. I took a set off an adjacent table and that was fine. This was minor because the food and service well made up for it and I truly am glad I made the visit to this restaurant. It was a highlight of my trip to Milwaukee and food...
