Previous to tonight, I had only been to Mo's Irish Pub for Drinks. After work this evening my boyfriend and I decided to have dinner there. I am of African descent ( I'm a black woman). Our server was also of African descent. Our server didn't seem very interested in serving us. In my opinion, her attitude suggested that she didn't really want to deal with us. We placed our order and waited over 40 minutes for our food. While waiting for our small order, I witnessed her communicating and helping other guests that happen to be of European descent (White) with ease and a pleasant attitude. The server walked past us several times without speaking or acknowledgment of the fact that we had been waiting for our food for a long time. When she finally brought the food out, it was cold. I could tell it had been sitting for a while before we received our order. I witnessed her helping everyone but us, and not once did she stop to go to the kitchen to check the status of our order. I could be wrong, but in my opinion, because we were black, she didn't feel a need to give us adequate service. I have experienced this behavior before. In my opinion, black people often get misjudged when entering establishments. There is an assumption that we will be difficult or "ghetto." There is a stigma that suggest black people don't tip their servers. Because of these preconceived thoughts of us, we received crappie and unfair treatment. I am very shy, and I don't like to make a fuss because I don't like being labeled difficult. I wasn't going to say anything, but I made a decision to complain about the cold food we received. We ended up getting the order for free. I was still very upset by being treated that way by someone of African descent. I still left her a tip anyway, simply to prove to her that not all black people are loud and ghetto, and we do tip...
Read moreRead the other reviews which gave one a 50/50 chance at either really good or really bad service. We decided to chance it since we were going to the Riverside Theater afterwards. Got there at a little past 5. Not busy yet. Music was a bit loud making it hard to sometimes hear our server but he was very polite and attentive. Hubby had a beer, I had a lemon drop martini. Definitely more martini than lemon drop martini. The only lemon detected was the wedge on the rim. Definitely more beer bar than martini bar. We opted for the sampler appetizer and that rocked. Spinach artichoke dip with warm tortilla chips, chicken quesadillas and their own cheeseburger shalalees. Everything arrived warm and fresh and oh so good! This plus soup split between two people could be a meal in itself but we ordered entrees. Hubby had the Mac n chicken. He only finished half and he's a big guy. I opted for the Guinness BBQ chicken and shrimp boxty. Not sure what I was expecting when it said chicken shrimp, andouille sausage etc tucked into a potato pancake but it sounded good. And it was. Basically, it's a potato pancake instead of tortilla burrito about 10-12" long and 3+ inches wide STUFFED with goodness and topped with melted cheese and BBQ sauce. After the appetizer, I opted to only eat half to save room for dessert. We opted for the Mo's cookie. Fresh baked chocolate chip cookie toped with some Chocolat syrup and ice cream. YUM. For his first time making one, our server rocked it. Gabriel was polite and attentive without being hovering. Also good about warning that my top plate was very hot. Overall, a very enjoyable meal. Only negatives were the less than spectacular special martini and the music being a bit too loud to easily carry on a conversation. We'll definitely be back and also likely to hit the Tosa location as well when we drive up...
Read moreCame in from Chicago for a quick bite with my mother and 3 of my girlfriends the day before St Patricks Day. We had tickets to a show at the theater down the street and one hour to enjoy a hot meal in the late afternoon. Considering it was a holiday weekend, we expected it to be busy just about anywhere. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table which wasn't a problem. When we were seated, we were seated at a small table near the pool table and other arcade game. The manager pushed our table as far back as he could so we wouldn't be in the way of the group of gentleman playing pool. We were sitting there for five minutes before an extremely intoxicated guy started screaming at us demanding us to move because he wanted to play skiball. We explained to him we were seated here by the manager who already moved the table as far back as he could. He continued to scream at us until I got up and decided to find the manager that seated us explaining what was currently happening. He seemed genuinely upset and opened up a separate isolated area for us to sit alone at our table apologizing profusely for how we were treated our first time visiting their establishment. He offered to comp half our meal for the trouble and assigned one of the kindest servers to take care of us. I wish I remembered her name because she deserves the recognition. My only regret is that we didn't have enough time to spend here because the food was absolutely delicious. You can tell they truly care about their customers and did not want to leave a bad impression on some visitors. I'm not angry at the establishment for how we were treated by one patron because these things can and will happen in a bar. I am applauding them for how quickly the management was to respond and rectify this issue to make sure the rest of our visit was an enjoyable...
