I've reviewed Damon's before. I'm not sure, but I gave it good marks; either a 4 or a 5. That's not happening this time for the following reasons.
When we arrived, we found a parking spot in their large parking lot. We took the elevator to the 2nd floor where the restaurant is located. We were seated in short order. The waitress came promptly, provided us with menus and took our drink order. After a reasonable wait, she returned with our drinks and took our order. So far, so good.
However, as she walked away, only after our order being taken that she deem fit to advise us that the kitchen was backed-up and there would be some delay in our order being brought to the table.
About 20 minutes later, the waitress brought the house bread to the table. It was four mini blueberry muffins with a flavored butter. It was warm and quite good. Unfortunately, we didn't have any silverware or napkins. We waited maybe 10 minutes without seeing any trace of her, so we decided to dip the muffins into the butter. While we didn't see our waitress, we did observe other wait-staff around the restaurant attending to other patrons.
After another half hour, the waitress came back to advise us that the kitchen had caught up.. After a total of waiting for our meal for well over an hour, we decided that we should just get up, pay for our drinks, and leave. Just as we started collecting our things, our meals arrived.
Starving at this point, we sat down and ate our food. I say "food" because I wouldn't characterize what was served as a "meal". I ordered the "meatloaf." My meatloaf was a pasty consistency. I prefer meatloaf with a slight crust and a firm but moist interior. This had the texture of being extruded from.a pastry bag
This was a flabby interior with a slightly harder wall around it. The mashed potatoes were tainted with an unnidentifiable flavoring, one that maybe is better that I can't identify. The Slaw was ok, but I think it should have had a stronger flavor.
During our hour and maybe 15 minute wait, my wife and I observed several other tables being seated after us . They receiving their meals long before us
On the good side, the views at this place are excellent. The sea, fishing and commercial boats, recreational craft, para-sailers and other activities are very entertaining and interesting. People with creaky joints can avoid the long staircase cli mb with a dedicated elevator. The restaurant is well maintained.
In the past, service was very good. The food was ok, but never exemplary. The runs were very good. However, the real reason to come wa good food and service but mainly the view. Even the tables further away from the large architectural windows had a good view.
I will eventually return. It may be 6 months to a year, but eventually I will go back. But for now, friends visiting me in MB won't be...
Read moreAs you will see from the photos I uploaded, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit! I decided to take a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for my birthday back in October 2021. While there, I decided to visit Damon's restaurant, because I heard a rumor from the locals that if one is celebrating a birthday, one is entitled to a free meal! In this instance, it was dinner for me. Boy was I surprised when I got there and learned that this was the truth!
I really don't have to write a whole lot about my experience because the photos will speak for themselves! I gave this restaurant five stars because like all of my five-star reviews, this restaurant takes pride in the exterior and interior of its presentation. The full experience was worth the visit. If you've read any of my other reviews, you know how much of a stickler I am about the men's restrooms and the cleanliness surrounding them. From these photos, you'll see that this restaurant takes cleanliness very seriously! Considering the fact that I arrived around 8 p.m. on a week night, it was surprising to see that the restaurant was quite clean!
I ordered a full rack of ribs that were incredibly, super duper soft and moist! I could not believe how delicious those ribs were! From what I understand, ribs are a specialty of this restaurant. That being said, they did not disappoint on that specialty at all. Additionally, I ordered a side of french fries, and a house salad was included with bits of bacon or ham or both? With that salad, I had a small cup of vinaigrette that had a wonderfully sweet and tangy flavor to it.
Finally, they gave me a cupcake as a free gift for my birthday! The cupcake, unfortunately, was a bit dry and hard! I think it was refrigerated for quite a long time before giving it to me, hence the toughness of it. But is that really a criticism??? Neh...I was able to look past that small gaffe considering everything else was a five-star experience.
Did I mention how wonderful the interior and exterior were? I think I did in the opening paragraph but I will choose to mention it once more! The exterior of the restaurant is to die for! There are gorgeous palm trees surrounding the restaurant, with a deck that overlooks the beautiful ocean. I don't think it matters if one eats here in the daytime or in the evening. The experience will be delightful!
One final, closing point: I would be remiss if I did not mention how courteous and friendly the staff were! In a couple of the photos I uploaded, you'll see that I happened to catch a couple of young ladies on the outside of the restaurant cleaning and scrubbing the doors! That...
Read moreWe saw great reviews and the menu looked amazing online. We were on a kick of trying new places this trip. Never been before. My husband originally wanted prime rib but they were out (end of the day, no biggie, totally understandable), he got a strip steak and fries. I got the BBQ ribs and crab cake with a loaded baked potato. We both got the She Crab soup as an uncharged side (again, fancy soup, understandable). The only positive things I can say is that the cook on the food was immaculate! The ribs were crisp yet tender with a char, the crab cake was the same. The steak came out exactly as ordered, the fat could have been rendered a little more, but not a big deal. I'll agree witb the other comments that the grill marks look almost fake they're so sharp, probably an electric grill or some sort of press. What appalled me was how BLAND everything was! Not just un salted, but not seasoned period. 0 flavor. My husband never uses A1 and had some, I also gave him some butter from my baked potato to help it out. The ribs were decent, the baked on bbq was OK but again not real punchy, the meat itself did not taste like it had been rubbed; maybe some salt, but nothing crazy. I did not care for the side of sauce it came with... I thought of cheap steak sauce, my husband thought Heinz 57 Underwhelming on the ribs, esp since they're apparently famous. The crab cake was decent, but without the sauce pretty plain, but the sauce really complimented the crab well; so not too bad there. But not even some parsley in the breading, man. The She Crab soup was seasoned and almost Cajun like. The fries were good too, nice and crisp. My baked potato was the star of the show, tbh. The sauce for the crab cake was also stellar. We got key lime pie to go and it was fab! The service was great. Our waiter was polite and on top of things, even though it was end of the day. My favorite thing was our entrees were ready when he brought the soup out and he asked if we wanted it then or to wait. We asked to wait and had plenty of time to finish our soup before he brought the food. All in all, spent $80+ for the two of us and it was just underwhelming. For crab soup that's to die for, go to The Sea Captain's House. For amazing food that is well seasoned, clearly made in house, fresh, fairly priced; go to Pier 14. We went yesterday and it...
