Your word is your bond......straight forward and simple......just not @ Bowie's. Traveled 613 miles from FL to give my son, who is already a paid professional singer, to perform @ Bowie's. We got there early and he put his name on the list for open mike and secured the second spot. We were then told it was starting an hour later than normal so we agreed to come back, after he sang at a far better small town venue. So we did. The singer/band in first position failed to show so he was first up. Unfortunately, the band did not know many cover songs and so they were going to play two and then he would join the band with Drive by Incubus or Creep by Radiohead. The first band finished and suddenly another band comes on and my son was told he would sing after this band did three songs. I personally watched him shake hands with the manager in charge of open mike. That band finished and he was shoeing the next band on and my Son again asked him why he was not going and received many absurd excuses. My Son had had enough of the abject failure and it was time to leave. We mentioned our sincere displeasure to the waitress and she attempted to engage a male manager, who may have been part owner, and he merely shrugged his shoulders and demonstrated no concern for this outrageous treatment. The waitress was still concerned and grabbed a woman in the back who was likely the wife of the owner and she attempted to bring a resolution. The original buffoon manager suddenly and nervously arrived in the conversation offering excuses, but failing to admit that he had failed to manage the talent appropriately. The woman manager/owner attempted to back her manager saying the band didn't know any of his songs. My Son cut her off and said that's funny because they had two ready to go actually. The management was only interested in having a circular conversation and made no real attempt to address our concerns. The waitress was excellent but David Bowie would not be impressed by the poor services and lack of cleanliness in his dive bar. This management will not survive even if Bowie's does which appears unlikely. If you like thrash metal maybe this is your place. Avoid @ all costs. We had a much better time @ Kid Rock's bar a few...
Read moreCame in after a pub crawl tour with ville tour that had included Bowie's. Was completely empty we were the only people there. Music was to hopefully start a bit later. It didn't. Ordered drinks and fried pickles. Took 35 minutes for the pickles. Which only came after another couple came and ordered food and their food came at same time. Chelsea the waitress stopped by the table at the 25 minute mark. Asked if she could bring the check with the food. 10 minutes later still no food. Another person in the group went to the bar to see if we could cancel our kitchen order. She immediately brings the food snaps that we were lucky to get the food this fast. And tossed the checked at me. charge me extra for using a credit card when I was paying cash. Ended up leaving the food it was so over salted. We asked if it could be removed from the bill. No. It was also very hot and weirdly the bathroom was at least 30 degrees colder. I usually tip well when on vacation but she managed to be rude to every person at the table at some point. Walked past hours later looked in still empty. I get if there's an issue in the kitchen but our tour got waffle fries an hour earlier no problem. When the waiststaff is rude when you ask politely it's unfortunately on them. Plan on coming back to Nashville but not to Bowie's. Went down to Kid Rock's Honky Tonk which had 3 floors and was packed. Drinks arrived in 5 minutes and food in 15 minute. No excuse Bowie's. Also didn't appreciate bra's hanging...
Read moreCame here last night with a friend from FL who is a HUGE David Bowie fan. Sadly, aside from the big sign out front with the name "Bowie", there isn't really anything Bowie about the place. TBH I imagine he would think the place is quite drab. On the bright side, the live band (Rocky Mountain.. something) did some really great covers. Downside again, not a single Bowie song came from them the whole time we were there. Vocalist even lied to my friend's face and said there was one coming in the next set, which is the reason we stayed through the next set. There was a 5 dollar cover, but they still had the balls to send around a donation bucket. 5 bucks per head for a band that won't play Bowie in a place called Bowie is plenty. I had ordered a burger with waffle fries for 10 bucks; not a bad price. The fries were really good, thin sliced in a way I'd never seen. The burger was good sized, but just bland. I don't think it was seasoned at all. Our server Ashley saved the night for me. She was friendly and as attentive as she could be with how busy it was (they probably could have used another server). Two stars are just for her. If someone there reads this, please pass along the message that she's a beautiful person and shines bright enough to make...
