I hate leaving negative reviews. I don’t think I actually ever have for a restaurant. But after four days of staying at the Grand Hyatt and (at least attempting) to eat at the Nashville Grange four times— having three experiences be negative ones—it’s worth writing about. Our first experience was with hotel room service (which comes from the Grange). We ordered on their website, got our confirmation email, and waited…. And waited… an hour later, my husband finally called and was told there was a technical error and they had never received the order. Even though we had a confirmation. Okay, fine. They took our order over the phone and assured us it would be up in 15-20 minutes. A half an hour later, it appeared. The food was fine. We understand technology isn’t always reliable. We let it go.
Our second visit was for breakfast the next morning. Coffee was hot, and my food was pretty good. My husband didn’t love his yogurt, but it wasn’t a big deal.
Our third visit, we went in at 9:00pm for a late dinner. We knew they closed at 10:00, but double checked that they still served food after 9:00 (knowing some kitchens close an hour beforehand). There was a party of 6-8 leaving, otherwise the restaurant was empty. We were seated, so we figured we were good….then sat for 10 minutes with zero acknowledgment. People were standing around the kitchen and the entrance, as well as the bar, and someone was straightening things on a table. No one even made eye contact. So, finally, we walked out.
I decided to try again for lunch the next day, just for one more try. My mistake. I ordered the mushroom fricassee—essentially sautéed mushrooms on grits topped with greens. The grits were cold and lumpy, and in desperate need of salt. The mushrooms were good, so I tried to eat a few bites of those. The greens were flavorless and just in the way. Then, I found a bay leaf in it and just gave up. The cold grits just killed it, and the bay leaf honestly just annoyed me at that point. The waitress asked if everything was okay when she came by. I’m sure she could tell I wasn’t eating it. I told her it was okay, trying to be polite. But she knew, and asked if I didn’t like it. I couldn’t lie, so I just said,”Not really.” She was very apologetic and asked if she could bring me something else. I said no, thank you, and said I was all set. So she brought me my check for the full price of the dish. I wish I would have felt comfortable asking her to take the dish off my bill, but I so did not want to be “that person”. The dish was truly inedible, though.
I guess my whole point in writing all of this is to strongly encourage the kitchen and management to take a closer look at their dishes, and please please work on your overall attitude toward hospitality. I do have to note that both waitresses we had were kind and attentive—zero...
Read moreMy fiancé and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt and it was convenient to go to the restaurant for dinner since it was downstairs and the weather forecast predicted a thunderstorm. I also ate breakfast there and I have to be honest it was great. Dinner was an exception because when we got there we were denied the window seat we requested. There were only 4 other couples seated and when we asked why we couldn't get our seating choice we were told by the host that it wasn't available because a server wasn't assigned to that area, so we asked the server if should could accommodate us and allow us to sit two tables back. She also denied us and said it would be too difficult to serve us because 2 tables back was too spread out. She did offer us 2 other non-window table options, which we declined. Not even 5 minuets later a white couple came in and were seated at the table we requested. We asked why we were not able to get that table, but they were and the host gave the bogus answer about her computer screen not allowing it. The waitress came over and apologized, but gave no additional explanation. We told them that we didn't appreciate the discrimination so would just leave. I don't like to throw around the race card, but it was very blatant that is what the reason was. So disgusting that we still have to deal with racism in this society.... We are very well off, but that's not what mattered. I'll be coming a formal complaint for this because though my fiancé doesn't want me to take it further it bothers me, but I'll feel better after I speak to someone. Let me be clear...it's not the restaurant/food, but it's the people they had working at that time, which reflected poorly on the restaurant. I hope someone finds this...
Read moreMy husband and I arrived just as TNG opened. We were greeted immediately and taken to our table. Our waiter Marcus promptly delivered our water, wine and N/A Spritzer. We shared Lamb Ribs starter, Local Lettuces salad and Bavette Steak 45 prepared medium rare. We’ve never had this cut but it was tender and had great flavor. Marcus was absolutely brilliant in explaining each dish we asked about and giving many details of how each dish is flavored. Even though it wasn’t busy the food didn’t come out super fast which to me indicates that our meal was made fresh! The menu is not extensive but this may be by design. Prepare few things best rather than many things mediocre. This is the best food we’ve eaten since being in Nashville. We’re here another few days and maybe we’ll come back to try another dish. Also, the Mango lassi dessert was a nice end...
