Chapin's Cafe — Restaurant in New Orleans

Nice little place. My cousin and I came across it as were leaving N.O. for the Cardinals/Saints game. (Go Red Sea!) The menu is expansive, and gives you ample options for breakfast, brunch, or dinner. In need of a PoBoy before I left town, I grabbed a pastrami, and my cousin chose an Oyster one. I clearly tried to get too cute and should have gotten shrimp, or oysters like my cousin. The pastrami was a little dry and overly salty and wasn't nearly as hefty as the oyster. Good bread and good fries but the sandwich was mid. I'm from Philly so I know a thing or two about good sandwiches. The taco I tried as a side dish was very good, and it seemed the Mexican options were pretty nice. Customizable for days. Probably should have gotten that or went with breakfast. The server Layla was great though. Nice attitude with a cute smile. The music was on point with some southern soul which my cousin from Virginia loved and they had drinks which is awesome, even though I was already DONE with liquor by that point after over-celebrating a Cards win the night before. Nice little place, and I will be sure to come back and try a few different things...

Ordered off Uber Eats it was prepared and delivered in a reasonable amount of time. The stuffed mushrooms were tough on bottom and soaking in some kind of juice and the stuffing tasted horrible (can't describe the flavor), the seafood platter that consisted of fried oysters, fried shrimp, and fried fish. The seasoning was not used everything tasted bland and soft. The shrimp was too soft and tasted as if it had been in contact with dish soap. The fish was almost edible but then I bit into a long white stringy thing and decided this was not salvageable and just wasted my last meal for the night and my money! The beingets were greasy and lemonade was highly sweetened. I was not happy at all with this meal. The time I took to report my grievance to Uber eats has not assisted me, I am leaving tomorrow and hopefully I can speak to management on my way out. Very disappointing. We went in for a pretty basic lunch, when we arrived the place had almost no customers so you would naturally expect service to be quick but it was incredibly slow. When we got the food the burger (chicken sandwich) was incredibly dry and was like eating tough leather. The refried beans were incredibly dry also and basically inedible (looked like they had sat out for a long time). The Churassco tasted ok but again very tough and and quite dry.

Hopefully for their sake it was just a bad day in the kitchen.
