When searching for breakfast in New Orleans as well as driving around the city, I saw several Daisy Mae’s and that they all had great reviews. It was then just a matter of when to visit- and there happened to be one literally around the corner from my hotel- how about that!
Walking in, you just feel that you are in the heart of New Orleans. Even if you didn’t know what city you were in, I think the decoration and setup of Daisy Mae’s would be a dead giveaway. Paintings of jazz line the walls, and Saints decor hangs around the rest.
But all this to say, the food ultimately really let me down. I wouldn’t say I’m picky or have superficial taste, but there was just nothing exceedingly special about anything we tried. The omelet was okay, but it’s something I could’ve made at home, and maybe even better. The pancake was good, but it’s pretty hard to mess a pancake up- and it still wasn’t memorable.
One thing that was pretty decent were the pork chops, randomly enough. Other than that, I’m more than happy to forget trying this place. Especially in a city like New Orleans, there are a million and one places to eat, which means at least half that have to be better than this place, if Daisy Mae’s is middle of the road good like I believe. So I probably wouldn’t come back.
If you do still want to give this place a try, get here early or get ready to wait. We came around 7, 7:30am right when it opened and it was a ghost town. But by the time we were leaving almost every table was already filled with more coming....
Read moreWe came in at 0115. We were kinda lost as to what to do, so we decided to just go to the kiosk, seeing if someone would stop us; no one was at the front, we didn't know if it was self seating, wait to be sat, or what, so the kiosk it was (which was fine because we wanted to get it to-go). The atmosphere actually seemed simple and nice, but I was just saying this so people reading don't get butt-hurt, or annoyed, walking out because no one was at the very front guiding those coming in. There could have been a sign we didn't see as well. The 2 employees we did see were working were very fast paced and busy too. Whenever we get the chance to do breakfast here, we will happily stay to eat. We went to the kiosk, ordered for to-go fried chicken tenders (3) and waffles (1) (came with 2 syrups and like 4 butters, it was PLENTY, so do not worry about getting extra of those items). 2 of us split this, and we gave 3 other people their own bites. We felt it was the perfect amount for us to share, but everyone is different. From the time of placing our order to leaving was less than 10 minutes, could have been right at 5 minutes, very quick. Our mouths were watering by the time we got to our airbnb with the food, the aroma was heavenly. The food was still very hot when we got back. The chicken was perfection, not over-seasoned, very moist, and was just clean looking and tasting chicken breasts, no bad pieces. The waffle was so soft and perfectly golden-brown. We will absolutely be craving this for the rest...
Read moreMost posts were pretty good here. I was torn to go or not. Throwing time to the wind and a growing tummy, off to Daisy Mae's I go. Even though the menu says biscuits served during breakfast and brunch only, my server said no problem at the 2:00 pm hour. Side note, the benedict dishes aren't served after 2 pm! I wanted a breakfast plate, in my mind eggs, bacon/ sausage biscuits and gravy. They state they serve breakfast all day. Good place for a regular meal like I expected, right? No. Not on the menu. I had to either get biscuits and gravy, side of bacon and side of eggs, or what I ordered was biscuits with sausage gravy and a side of eggs. Can't quite figure that out, but anyway. It came, eggs on one plate and biscuits with gravy in a bowl topped with a sausage patty cut up on top. That's not sausage gravy. Presentation was severely lacking. I ate it. Not Worth me coming back. The food and an ice tea was $20. If it was a meal that effort was put into making and presenting it, ok, but, what can I say, when I make it at home, my quick version is far more advanced than what I ate here. My server was pleasant and it was a quaint location with a couple of large TV's showing European soccer on one. Would I go back here for another go at it? Not...
