Majoria's Commerce Restaurant is a delightful throwback to the neighborhood diner, offering a classic American breakfast and lunch experience. Frequent diners appreciate its consistently good food, friendly service, and affordability.
General Experience
Ambiance: This spot provides a nostalgic diner feel, perfect for those seeking a basic U.S. breakfast experience.
Crowd: While Ruby Slipper around the corner often has a lengthy wait, Commerce usually has no wait around 11:30 am on a Friday, though it fills up by noon.
Food: Classic breakfast options are the mainstay. The "All American" breakfast is a highlight, with crispy homefries-like hash browns and buttered toast. The shrimp po-boy is a tasty choice for lunch, featuring cute, small fried shrimp.
Drinks: The cappuccino with oat milk is a perfect start to the day, alongside a refreshing mimosa served in reusable glassware.
Service
Staff: Servers like Daniella and Shuane are praised for their kindness, efficiency, and attentiveness, enhancing the overall dining experience.
Speed: Diners are typically seated immediately, and food arrives quickly. Even as the restaurant fills up, the service remains prompt.
Sustainability
Concerns: The restaurant uses a lot of single-use plastics, including cups, straws, to-go bags, and potentially styrofoam containers.
Efforts: On request, the staff accommodates sustainability preferences, such as serving water in reusable mugs and allowing diners to manage their own waste to minimize environmental impact.
Notable Dishes
Biscuits and Eggs House Special: This dish offers a perfect balance of spice and flavor.
Loaded Hash Brown Skillet: A must-try, known for its deliciousness.
Breakfast Plate: While generally good, the use of shaved lunch meat ham instead of a traditional breakfast ham slice was a minor disappointment.
Overall
Despite sustainability issues, Majoria's Commerce Restaurant delivers a lovely dining experience with good food and excellent service. The plastic waste is a significant concern, but the accommodating staff and the delicious menu make it worth a visit. With some improvements in sustainability practices, this restaurant could easily become a top choice for eco-conscious diners.
Rating: 2 ⭐️s (due to sustainability concerns, but otherwise highly recommended)

Read moreI review based on sustainability overall
GENERAL: Basic diner/US breakfast experience. No wait around 11:30am on a Friday (just around the corner was Ruby Slipper and it was packed with an hour+ wait). Got a mimosa and cappuccino with oat milk. Perfect little cappuccino. Menus and condiments/sugar already at the table (still plenty of room on a 2-top). "All American" breakfast was classic and everything tasted as expected. The hash browns are more like homefries, but crispier which was better! Toast already buttered, but came with the little plastic butter and jam packets (terrible for the environment and I assume they throw it away if you don't use it). 2 single-stall bathrooms available - weirdly you have to walk through the kitchen to get to them 😅
SERVICE: Daniella was an excellent server! Kind, fast, efficient, answered all questions, accommodating with sustainability requests. 5 ⭐️s for our server! Seated immediately and food came out very quickly after ordering. The place wasn't that busy when we went in at 11:30, but by noon was full!
SUSTAINABILITY: (see above about small plastic packets) Water normally comes in a single-use plastic cup. We asked for the water to come out in a reusable coffee mug and our wonderful server politely accommodated. Most cold/iced drinks come in single-use plastic cups with bright red trash straws. To-go bags are plastic. Reusable glassware used for mimosas and mugs used for coffee; real silverware at the table in a white paper towel. Didn't get to-go containers, but they look like styrofoam (and again come in a plastic bag) 👎 Left with the paper towel and paper sugar packet to burn/compost elsewhere (I usually travel home with these things because it's hard to find drop-offs in new places).
Also pictured is the shrimp po-boy. Cute small fried shrimp - tasted good. Typical sandwich.
2 ⭐️s overall because of the sustainability issues. I would eat here again! They were kind, fast and accommodating. Decent food. However, if there's that much plastic thrown around (you could see it at every table) and especially the dreaded styrofoam, who knows where else they are wasteful (food waste, kitchen waste,...
Read moreI go to New Orleans regularly and have a list of all the restaurants I go to (good and bad). I always make it a point to get to know the good restaurants wherever I travel and recommend to friends and family. This is one of the restaurants on top of my list! If you want an excellent traditional breakfast (just like mom used to cook), this is the place! Very good variety selection of all traditional breakfast foods and so far all have been excellent! I have loved it every time. The omelets are my favorite! You wont leave hungry!!! The coffee is a special house blend from a local distributor for restaurants only (I couldn't get it). Has dark or medium. I am a coffee connoisseur (aeropress every morning) and very particular and I really enjoyed this drip coffee. Same goes for lunch. All the traditional quick lunch foods (burgers, sandwiches, poboys, salads) and all have been excellent! Atmosphere couldn't be better. Hometown neighborhood atmosphere. I usually get in and out quickly. Lines are usually not too long and go quickly. Funny videos usually on TV for my kids entertainment. Kid friendly place. Even got to meet the owner that works behind the bar one time and it was like talking to my neighbor. Bloody Mary's are delicious. I'm a bourbon connoisseur and the owner sure knows his bourbons! This has become my go to hidden gem of a restaurant that I recommend...
