I came to town with my boyfriend for my birthday. We came to Angelo’s twice. The first time was for lunch on Friday. Our waiter (I’m upset that I didn’t catch his name), was amazing. He had an Italian accent, young looking and tall. We were greeted immediately. He took our temperatures and had us complete a contact tracing registry form....like a sign in sheet for Covid tracing. He was the only waiter and even though there were more people coming in afterwards, his service remained the same. Very nice. The next day, we decided to come for dinner. Completely different atmosphere. We were approached apprehensively by one of the men there. We were asked to complete the contact form and our temperatures checked. The table was wiped down by our waitress and then was told to use the QR code to pull up the menu. No sweat. I ordered a cappuccino to drink. I understand it was 730pm. But I was cold and that’s what I wanted. The waitress furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and was like, “okayyy...” lol. Then we noticed 5 separate couples come in after us and additional family of 5. No temp checks. No contact form to complete. I will say that it didn’t seem like a race thing...the other separate couples were all of different races/backgrounds. I was confused though. Because if it’s for Covid tracing/ our safety, then everyone should be checked. Everyone should be signed in. Anyway, our waitress and the other guy kept eyeing us from afar...but it didn’t feel like it was to look out to see if we wanted anything. It felt like they were watching us to make sure we didn’t dine and dash, lol. My boyfriend then asked for a refill on his Pepsi. The waitress seemingly elevated her voice and said, “WE DONT DO REFILLS. ITS ANOTHER CHARGE.” My boyfriend was sitting there wide-eyed and said, “I know....we’ve been here before.” Both times, the food was delicious. My bf is very picky and he demolished his plate both times lol. It’s just the service was “weird” the 2nd time around. Weird vibes.

Service 5+, Food 5, Speed of service 5. Special note: Vladica was impressive to watch. From filling every drink order, managing her coworkers concern while keeping a calm approach and knowing everything I could ask for without asking, she was impressive. I ordered extra basil, perfect amount. Always enjoy olive oil with the crust, she was one step ahead in asking. She set the tone for the entire experience. Had wanted to go here for some time but the occasion and time never presented itself until today. On a Sunday around one, it was packed upstairs and down including the bar. However, because I was out on my own they were able to accommodate my seating in less than 7 minutes with no reservation. Awesome! Coal fired pizza is a dying breed in NYC so I enjoy the nostalgia of a yesteryear approach. While it’s not a Margarita following DOP standards, I didn’t expect it to be. I enjoyed the simplicity, the flavors and sometimes I prefer having a thicker crust beyond the razor thin of Neapolitan style pizzas. Everyone seemed to be enjoyed their experience and even though it was packed, the noise wasn’t bad at all. Recommended with enthusiasm. If you can manage, sit at the bar if Vladica is working. The service, class and food will impress.
