I dined at Bonchon on 5th ave last night, and had the most incredible, warm and hospitable experience. I have to be honest, I have very very high bonchon standards- And since we came in 45 minutes before last call on a super cold gross day, I was not expecting the best of the best- but as always Bonchon you blew it out of the park!!!
Of course the chicken was FANTASTIC But lately I have realized everywhere I go the prices are higher and the portions are smaller, I get it, inflation, pandemic, times are really tough especially for restaurants- but man bonchon I swear your priced are the same and the portions are.....larger? lol or I just missed you, can you PLEASE OPEN A BONCHON IN HARLEM? Ok back to last night - We had the zucchini fried to start and they arrived steaming and tasty! Loved the sprinkled cheese on top and my friend enjoyed the side of spicy mayo!!
Next I had the soy garlic wings You can do 20 pieces for $27.95 or 10 for $15.95 So flavorful and crispy, well seasoned juicy chicken! You can do half and half or spicy if thats your thing. I ordered a half and half to take home for my bf and the amazing Jay had it all wrapped and ready for me right when we were ready to go, My friend had the 10 piece chicken strips soy garlic- also $15.95 for the 10 piece or $27.95 for the $20 she said hers were delicious and perfect and the perfect steamy temperature. I tried one and it was good but I think she's crazy to choose strips over wings or thighs which are just so much juicier and more flavorful! My favorite = soy garlic wings! They are just as crunchy and tasty cold the next day - idk how they do it
We both barely made it through 1/3 of the plate- between the zucchinis appetizer snd the generous portions
Other positives:
+Our server Jay!!! (see ) unlimited fountain soda refills Love their coleslaw also. super covid compliant environment:
They check ids and vaccine cards before you are seated and have sturdy dividers between spaced out tables- feels a lot safer and less cramped than the other restaurants in the area
Our server Jay was so amazing- true props to him - and how incredibly warm and kind he was- he genuinely wanted us to have a WONDERFUL experience- and thats exactly what he gave us. We had everything we needed from hand sanitizer and chicken bones bucket to refills on our cokes and waters the second they needed it- he communicated everything to us- about the time of last food order and last call for drinks- without making us feel rushed or...
Read moreTheir chicken is ok, but they don't accommodate for even small requests. My family and I, ordered under Chris, kindly asked if they could put the sauce on the side instead of on the chicken, and they refused profusely saying they never did this for 10 years of business and it's their policy. It's kind of odd that they don't accommodate when it's probably easier on everyone just to put sauce in a small cup on the side, especially because we just wanted to taste the sauce for future reference (that is, if there is a future order). We asked also if they could separate the wings from separate boxes because one is spicy and the other's not. But for some reason that's not possible even though I ordered a huge amount of wings. I even explained my family member has heart trouble and cannot have any spicy food. Apparently putting them in separate boxes means that we are buying their individual orders, which are priced higher, so they could not put separate boxes. It just doesn't make any sense to me when I bought so many wings. Is it not unsanitary to put 36 wings in ONE BOX with two different kinds of wings? I asked for the manager and he said he was the manager. Their management is terrible and they hang up on you while you mid-conversation. For me, this lack of accommodation just shows that the customer does not matter, only the money in their pockets (for which these wings are very overpriced but they fill one paper box to the brim with one family order of wings).
The worst part is that all 36 wings were cold when received, and the spicy sauce interfered with the other wings (which was guaranteed by the manager not to happen). The fact that the sauce is so spicy even a drop getting on the other plain wings was felt. My family member cannot eat ANY spiciness, due to a heart condition. She wasn't able to eat any of it...we had to throw it away.
Hopefully the owner sees this review because your management is ridiculous and takes the initiative to make this up. Maybe now's the time to change your policy, if it has been for ten years not to accommodate even a small but meaningful request...
Read moreMe and my friend, was deciding what to eat and we walked so much and we didn’t know what to eat, we wanted to go to bbq chicken the basic one but then she told me let’s go to Bonchon it’s better the quality is better, we decided to get the combo which I preferred the small 10 wings but we got the 6w 3D I believe, we also got radishes as the combo, we got the rice katsu dish, and then the seasoned fries, I preferred the regular fries when we get it, but this was good, well seasoned, and then we also got the tteok- bokki I don’t eat spicy so I only tried 3 and the fish cake, the katsu was good well seasoned along with the salad, the servers was nice believe it was more then 3 people checking on us, the girls workers was nice and checked on us, places seems very clean and quiet along with nice music which is regular music.
