New York's Lesbian Hotspot #2 - Cubbyhole

It was PACKED but that’s what made it so much fun! I was able to snag a seat at the bar with my sister! We immediately were greeted by the bartenders and other patrons were just SO SWEET. The crowd sang songs together all throughout the night which I thought was so cute, very NYC LOL. We definitely made some cool friends that night and my experience was very memorable… I will FOR SURE BE BACK. Oh yeah also it’s CASH ONLY and the ATM actually stopped working when we were there so just make sure you have extra cash on you!

One of the best bars I have been to in NYC šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ We were there on a Monday afternoon and it was still buzzing and atmospheric as if it was a Friday or Saturday night. Deb on the bar was friendly, welcoming and hilarious, playing great tunes, drinking games and handing out free pizza! Super quirky and colourful decor inside. The happy hour is also great - $5 fizz! This bar is a must visit!! I have been back many times since and always have an incredible time. 4 dollar well drinks on happy hour!!!! Can't beat it.

One-Star Review: Unacceptable Experience at Cubbyhole I'm extremely disappointed in the service I received at Cubbyhole on June 27. As a paying customer, I was minding my own business at the end of happy hour when, without provocation, a white male staff member grabbed me from my bar stool and threw me out. This incident occurred without any prior interaction or verbal exchange between us, leaving me shaken and disrespected.

Given that I was the only black female in the bar, I'm concerned that this unprovoked attack may have been motivated by bias or prejudice. As a customer, I expect to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of my background or identity.

Key Issues:

Unprovoked Physical Altercation: The staff member's actions were unwarranted and unacceptable. Lack of Respect: I was not treated with the respect and dignity that every customer deserves. Potential Bias: The incident may have been influenced by bias or prejudice, given the circumstances.

Recommendations for Improvement:

Staff Training: Provide staff with training on de-escalation techniques, customer service, and bias awareness. Accountability: Ensure that staff members are held accountable for their actions. Inclusive Environment: Foster an inclusive environment where all customers feel welcome and respected.

Unfortunately, my experience at Cubbyhole was marred by unacceptable behavior from a staff member. I hope that the establishment will take steps to address these issues and provide a better experience for...

Sadly, I feel like the only real reason people go here is because you can be a gay AND buy cheap drinks (considering the area). I will say if you have no requirements about who ends up in your mouth or pants, this bar is great for you. Otherwise, once this place picks up around 9/10: the staff is too overworked and/or underpaid to properly handle their business(grouchy, I'm doing you a favor attitude). It's TOO packed to be fun, like subway rush hour packed plus people at that super emotional part of drunk. Their bar is in a quiet neighborhood, and it's your, the customers fault for their poor business decision making skills when your outside talking with your smoker friends/smoking. I genuinely believe this business only survives because there are very few cheap options for a lesbo just looking to hang in nyc. I leave angry that I gave them any of my money 75% of the time and only go when a friend wants to nowadays. We lesbians should demand better of our bars just like the guys do, and not just settle for whatever exists. In my opinion, Cubbyhole is the lesbian community settling and this establishment doesn't deserve any special attention or any of your hard earned money unless nothing else is open/you're desperate. I also should note that I rarely write reviews and this 1 of 2 I've taken time to write about this bar tonight, I'm that done and have had too many conversations with others about how much this place sucks. LEZ...

I was here on Saturday night by myself. I came in earlier when there was no line and had been there for about an hour and a half. I had met someone who left to walk their friend to an Uber and was coming back. I had just ordered a drink and walked over to the window to look to see if she was in the line that had formed outside. As I turned around to walk back towards the bar, the bouncer (probably the only cishet male that was there) stopped me and pointed to the door. Confused, I asked what he meant. He said ā€œyou have to wait in lineā€ to which I said ā€œI’ve been here for over an hour.ā€ He said ā€œI didn’t see you come inā€ etc etc. I literally had a fresh drink in hand, a few others folks said to him ā€œshe’s been hereā€ and he still very rudely made me leave. I gave up as he was making me feel unsafe and had to wait in line to come back. Then had to dump my drink that I had just paid for. It is truly sad that this is supposed to be a ā€œsafe spaceā€ and it isn’t. The bartender was rude - I understand being overwhelmed because it’s busy but I’ve been in that situation and there’s a way to handle it and not be rude. Nobody helped me with the bouncer when I tried to ask other employees for help. It’s just not a great place and I’m not in any rush to...
