Really horrible experience here (updated due to their lying response) - I pre ordered a dozen donuts for Hanukkah. They gave 3 of my donuts away to a lady ahead of me. They assumed I was the Uber Eats pick up person for whatever reason you want to assume. I witnessed a Blonde lady asking them to “make something happen” and “please give me donuts for my daughter”I personally saw them take a box out of a bag and hand it to the woman who was thanking them. Little did I know at the time that would be my pre paid for donuts they took out of my bag to give someone else. They didn’t tell me at all to my face or in person when they handed me my bag they stapled after taking my donuts out for the other woman. They called and explained it to me 5 mins after leaving the shop. On the phone they said “Oh that was you in there, we thought it was Uber pick up”I asked if I should drive back to get more donuts or something else, they said no. They NEVER sounded apologetic on the phone - saying sorry one time is different than being actually apologetic. They never offered a different product and simply said they would refund me for the three donuts that I paid for that they decided to take out of my bag and give someone else. That is not being sorry or a good business; that’s actually the law - you can’t charge someone for something you didn’t give…I witnessed them give part of my order away to someone else that I had pre paid for, pre ordered and drove over an hour there to get. I have never been treated so poorly by a business in New York City… Really disgusting business practice they are running. Giving away some one’s pre ordered and pre paid for goods then being too ashamed to tell...
Read moreEdith’s BK is a small pop-up Jewish Deli of sorts with a twist which is located at Paulie Gee’s, (not the slice shop). Their hours are Thursday thru Sunday, opening at 9am. Be prepared to wait... I was in line for an hour on a rainy Sunday morning - so those raindrops aren’t keeping many people away, nor speeding up the line. Waited about 45 minutes in line and an additional 15 minutes once the order was placed. But, that’s the price you pay for some good, coveted, NYC grub - I’m here for it. Ordered The NY Classic - house smoked sustainable salmon, heirloom tomato, pickled shallot, arugula & house cultured cream cheese on a Chicago style bagel. The bagel is Edith’s version of an everything bagel with similar spices and an addition of a very tiny hint of spice. Very good and had nice flavor - their salmon was fresh with nice texture - the heirloom tomato was lovely!
A couple of things to note: •sold out of all pasteries around 10:45am •sold out of latkes around 10:15am •the food is very good, but don’t go expecting traditional Jewish fare - expect a twist on the traditional •get there early - once they run out of food for the day, that’s it •outdoor seating consisting of approximately 10 seats - covered with two giant umbrellas •the staff is fantastic - so very kind and patient!
As Edith’s is rather new to the game, I got the impression that they’re trying their best to keep up with demand and adjust accordingly. I wouldn’t hold it against them just yet that they’re running out of items so soon. Maybe this took off better than expected, which is...
Read morePaul Giannone, owner of the famous Greenpoint pizzeria Paulie Gee, has been a strong advocate for the restaurant industry during COVID19 and during this time of difficulty he has generously offered Jewish-American eatery Edith’s his place to do a breakfast pop-up Thursday through Sunday. It’s also a smart idea because the famous pizza place is not open in the mornings so the kitchen is just sitting there unused. Ever since the pop-up started Edith’s has become a favorite bagel spot for so many New Yorkers and there is always a really long line that forms even before opening.
Their signature bagel sandwich is the BEC&L, which is their take on the BEC (bacon, egg and cheese) with latke (hence the “L”) on a Chicago bagel (their version of an Everything Bagel). They also have a weekly pizza bagel featuring signature Paulie Gee’s pizzas like the Hellboy. So far the best one yet has been the pizza bagel with arugula, pesto and mozzarella. They have other delicious items like the shakshuka morning bun and the Sabich and they have a refreshing nonalcoholic drink called the Passion fruit Gazoz.
You’ll have to wake up super early to make that trek to Greenpoint though because they sell out quickly, sometimes within two hours of opening, but you’ll be glad that you did and be sure to order everything. I only wish this place was here to...
