Review of Fat Fowl š°Cost: Affordable for New York City ($21.79 for a single meal) Overall Rating: 8.93/10
First Impressions: A long line, a sign of Fat Fowl's potential popularity, makes an impression right away. Meals are delivered in less than five minutes, and customers appear to be happy with the service. The music improves the dining experience, and the ambiance is friendly. The staff makes sure the areas used for food prep stay clean, and the restaurant maintains good sanitization practices. Minor operational inefficiencies were observed, though, like a misunderstanding between order takers and pickup personnel.
Food & Flavor: Tamarind BBQ Sauce with Quarter Chicken: The chicken is prepared nicely, but it would taste better with a stronger Caribbean seasoning blend. However, it is still flavorful. BBQ with tamarind: Although it doesn't have a strong tamarind tang, the sauce goes well with the dish. One particularly noteworthy ingredient is mango pickle slaw, which has a flavorful, well-balanced taste without being overly acidic. Its attractiveness is increased by the vivid color. Plantains: Sweet and ripe, with a hint of syrup to balance it out. They were almost overcooked/ charred, but their flavor and texture were preserved.
Menu Originality: The menu features a blend of traditional Caribbean dishes with a distinctive twist, like the mango slaw and the shrimp burger (suggested by a regular customer). Sadly, during this visit, the chicken sandwich was not available.
Service & Experience: Most staff members are knowledgeable and well-trained, and they offer excellent customer service. Nonetheless, there were a few small instances of unprofessional behavior, like informal staff discussions and sporadic chaos at the pickup counter. Despite this, the staff pays close attention and makes sure that fresh ingredients are handled correctly all day long.
Final Thought: At a reasonable price, Fat Fowl offers a satisfying meal with tasty, well-prepared food. The overall quality of the meal is impressive, even though the chicken could use a stronger Caribbean spice profile. It is admirable that the restaurant is dedicated to using only organic, fresh ingredients and maintaining a clean environment. Fat Fowl could further improve its standing in NYC's cutthroat culinary scene with minor improvements in seasoning and service efficiency.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was my first time in Dekalb Market. I went with a friend and two 11 year olds on a weekday afternoon. The major lunch crowd was just beginning to slow down. So it was busy but not packed. We walked the entire market and decided to commit to Fat Fowl (I mean with a name like that, it has to be good). There were a few people on line (more than the other food stalls) but they moved through the line quickly. The employees cook and prep the food right in front of a glass partition, which also has a bar height seated counter, for you to eat at while watching them prepare the food. The food had such a fresh look. Everything is right behind the glass partition and it all looked amazing! With 4 of us we decided to order a whole chicken (which comes with 3 sides - we ordered Mac & cheese, plantains and waffle fries) and we ordered the oxtail grilled cheese. The total was a little under $100. Once we sat at the counter, and realized we didnāt order any vegetables, we were thinking we should have ordered some because they looked so good. Our food was prepared quickly and we tore into that food! Baaaabbbbbyyyyyy! THIS WAS EVERYTHING! That food did what it came to do! It was perfectly seasoned! Not super salty. I ate the white meat and it was juicy and tender ANDā¦.the kids didnāt even ask for BBQ sauce (which they have but is not even needed)! This food was like a warm hug and I enjoyed every minute! We were so caught up in the chicken and sides, we forgot about the oxtail grilled cheese. Yes, I knowā¦.how disrespectful! And even though we were full we opened it up, and I swear the sandwich winked at us! That first bite was an explosion of flavors that is indescribable! We still had enough food left over to feed 2 people! Itās 3am and Iām still thinking about this place! I was there on a Thursday and already considering going back on Saturday! Well done Fat Fowl! You have 4 forever fans! Thank you for sharing your love of food with us! Now stop reading this review and go to Fat Fowl or order online, just get this food! Now! You can...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI took a day trip to get my microbladed and decided to make a day out of it . Dekalb Market reminds me of and upscale flea Market or Redding Terminal in Philly. I saw this eatery on tik tok and decided to stop in. 1.The wait in that line is super ridiculous. I would probably not do that again. The menu looks good, the cuisine seems to be a mixture of carribean and comfort food blended.Example oxtail grilled cheese. The wait was about 30 minutes total, which irritated me because it's not an actual restaurant so standing that long is actually very absurd. I ordered the oxtail grilled cheese with waffle fries, rose lemonade, and the Mac and cheese. Now this is my HONEST REVEIW The pricing is pretty much what you gon get in this economy!!!!! Ok however I wasn't thrilled with my meal. The Mac & cheese has a great concept but needed a bit more seasoning, the concept of gooy Mac and cheese as opposed to baked is a good idea it's just missing something. The oxtail grilled cheese......now as a JAMAICAN! I AM DISSAPPOINTED! WE NA MEK OXTAIL SO! WE NA PUT SUGA INNA OXTAIL!!!!!!! I understand the concept but I was expecting savory, cooked down, gravyfull succulent meat and it wasn't giving JAMAICAN OXTAILS! It wasn't dry, or unflavored it just wasn't what I was expecting and it didn't hit the pallet the way I needed it to! It is definitely a more Americanized concept which is cool but not if your of JAMAICAN ethnicity its not going to be what you expect, the flavor expected from a carribean perspective won't be there but it is an ok meal to try if you don't care so much . 6.I'd give it a even 3 on the score board, the waffle fries were fried hard and delicious as they should be! I'll add my photos later to this post they are added on Google.
P.S I did ENJOY THE ROSE LEMONADE HOWEVER IT WAS REALLY REALLY SWEET,I SPLIT THE BOTTLE IN HALF AND ADDED WATER TO IT. The concept of infusing roses into lemonade is genius and a great mocktail idea, but thw sugar content in it...
