First the pros:
Great for a date night, dimly lit with small intimate tables and REAL candles!
The service was great, you could tell that this was a new place and rhythm was still building but everyone was kind attentive and sweet!
Drinks: I got a fig cobbler cocktail( wow, absolutely great, enjoyed it thoroughly). My wife got a cocktail suggested by our server and while I didn't particularly like it, my wife loved it!
Focaccia: we got the ricotta and hot honey, and while we thought it was great, it almost felt like there was too much ricotta, which took away from the bread.
Crispy pork ears: WOW! Reminded me of Texas! Really great and crispy. No excessively fatty pieces so I loved the consistent crispy fatty chewyness.
Dinner: I got the lasagna with the Bolognese sauce and pecorino and mozz. Wow! Just wow. Some of the best hotty fresh lasagna I've ever had. And that's saying something. The Bolognese was perfect and the cheese was freshly melted and caramelized, with crispy bits changing up the texture. Highly recommended!
My wife got the lemon pasta and was disappointed in just how overly lemony it was. The other flavors including the garlic were great but we're overpowered by the amount of lemon. Only thing I guess we didn't really like.
Dessert: we shared a tiramisu. Yeah no words. Amazing, some of the best we've had. Highly Recommended!
Conclusion: Great atmosphere, service and relatively good food with some minor issues. It almost felt like growing pains so will be back to give it another shot! Wish they had more vegetarian/vegan options on the...
Read moreI would really give this place 3.5 stars if half stars were an option. I came here for dinner recently and I thought it was overall fine, but not as amazing as I was expecting based on the reviews I had read when researching a place to dine during my trip.
The ricotta & hot honey focaccia stole the show! It was very tasty and sized well. The arugula salad was a bit tart - could’ve used a little more dressing and maybe something sweet, even a slightly sweeter dressing to cut all the acidity. My husband got the pork chop which he enjoyed, while I got the raviolo. I asked the waitress which one of two pasta dishes she recommended, but I make the mistake of telling her I was leaning more towards the ravioli & she said to just get that. I wish she had clarified it was just one large ravioli (which I understand is what raviolo is, but didn’t realize that’s what it said at the time) and maybe explained the flavor profiles of each dish a bit more. I didn’t really enjoy the dish, didn’t finish it, and wish I had gotten the pesto instead. I was considering telling her I didn’t really like my dish (it was also cold, like it had been sitting out) but she never came by to ask how everything was (but she did for the table next to us). My husband said his dish was warm so I didn’t feel like complaining that mine wasn’t.
The ambiance was nice and the staff wasn’t friendly enough, especially the hostess, but I would come here more for drinks and appetizers...
Read moreAfter living in the City for a while, it is always great to go back and eat at phenomenal new restaurants.
I can honestly say Fossetta is one of the best I've visited, either as a Brooklyn resident or as a frequent visitor of the City.
From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with warmth from a staff that means it, and genuinely understands the power of a great meal and good company. The staff was kind even after we'd finished too, bringing a Japanese whiskey for us to try as a closer (it was excellent).
The space is marvelous too, with the big garage doors that offer views that will dazzle in the autumn and spring and offer plenty of light, even near the Winter Solstice.
The food is fresh, with subtle takes on vintage Italian and Mediterranean classics. Try the Hot honey Focaccia, which is a healthy portion and great for dipping in any of the dishes that follow. We loved the rigatoni and chicken liver, which was perfectly balanced because the marsala softens the irony taste you sometimes get from a chicken liver, even when it is organically farm fed. Finally, they make the best Amatriciana I've had stateside. It's a testament to caring about making your pasta in house, despite the commitment that demands.
What a wonderful place with great people. Enjoy and come...
