I have to start by addressing some of the negative reviews, not my place to, but what a joke. Racism? Delivery Complaints? Tummy Issues? These are not reviewable areas in my opinion...
IF anything, perhaps "tight space", "no place to wait for our table", "rap music during dinner", or "busy kitchen that creates noise"... and even so, my thoughts would be for these patrons to go to one of the other thousands of restaurants in NYC... aka: Move out of the way because this is hands-down the best Italian FOOD in this damn city.
So damn good, the visit last night only reiterated why I hate New York to begin with. You simply cannot find this sort of paradoxical haven in the city. Brooklyn? Astoria? Perhaps. Not in Manhattan, not to MY standards. Well now I can! At Frank!
I am not an easy guest because I know the industry. I deal with the same sort of nonsensical claims that have nothing to do with the food, service or space, thus, I expect to be taken good care of - as I do with my guests. Frank nailed it.
Go to Frank if you want good music, Chris rocks this place with jams!! Go to Frank if you want your eyes to be treated to the most aesthetically-pleasing hodgepodge of fussy details, global currency, pearl-colored ceilings, and the most colorful tabletops full of darling floral touches. Go to Frank if you want Italian food that you can legit taste the difference in each noodle AND sauce (so often Italian all tastes the same - just presented differently, not here!!). Go to Frank for even a simple glass of Prosecco that tastes good, rare for me too... hell, even their Lambrusco was yummy! GO TO FRANK FOR THE BEST PANNA COTTA EVER.
My photos are not the best because I just wanted to eat! There were four in our party, we ordered four starters & four entrees & four desserts (fatties) and finished it all! We returned a PPA of $110 each after tax & gracious gratitude... which is reasonable for how happy we left. I also feel Frank is fair with pricing (don't change this! I can't wait to bring more business to you, but not everyone has the funds for a Manhattan budget, such a fair price point).
In any case... skip reading reviews under four stars, this place is a gem. So very thankful our original dinner plans fell through. This experience...
Read moreCame here last night (Friday) with an 8:45pm reservation. Waited about 20 minutes to get a table past the reso time, but it's Friday night and this place is full to the gills, I get it. Service is great for the most part, but as slammed as they are, fairly slow. All this is understandable. Garlic bread is great, but at $8 a piece, perhaps the most I've ever spent on bread in any restaurant in my life. All is still fine and understandable. Our entrees come out. I got the Polpettonne, which was recommended by server. It's so salty, I can't eat more than a couple bites. My two friends tried it and agreed, and I'm a guy that loves salt. Send back the entree, get the pappardelle special. Replacement entree comes out very quickly! Pasta is homemade, but just cooked so far beyond acceptable, it's just mush. You can tell this from several feet away, and unless the server or cook was incompetent, which I'm sure they're not, it was obvious this pasta wouldn't pass muster at an Olive Garden in Wichita. Server never bothered to look at the plate he'd just brought out and which I'd placed at the edge of the table a few minutes later. 15 minutes or so later, table was bussed, and whole plate of pasta, nearly untouched, was taken. No enquiry about quality of food from server. Entree was left on bill. I ended up eating the rest of my friend's rigatoni. EDIT: I make my own pasta at home often, and I do understand pappardelle is not cooked al dente, but when you don't need to chew your food to swallow it, I think something might be amiss with the cook time.
My friends both had the rigatoni, which was fine but not fantastic. Quality you'd find in just about every neighborhood italian joint at far lower prices all over NYC. Cocktails were good. My friend who brought us here tells me this isn't indicative of Frank's normal quality. I have a feeling they just don't have the kitchen area to do this many covers, and they are SLAMMED on the...
Read moreHaven't gone to this place since I lived in the east village which was more then 13 years a go now, and let me tell you it was a very poor experience maybe the waitress was kind of good but I then realized she was fake and telling us what we wanted to hear which was (ohhh I like feed back I will refer to the kitchen but she didn't say anything to anyone 🙄), I order something so basic and mind you it grows wild in the south Italy which is where I'm from , fava been & cicoria , it was so blend and small and when I got to the end of the bowl it was so gritty which is a sign of poorly washed cicoria 🙄it was accompanied but blanched vegetable I guess they had to excuse the $22 price , when I told the waitress she told me ohh so sorry you want them to make you some sautéed vegetable with garlic ? and I was why didn't they already made them like that ?? I was going to see a show and didn't have time for them to rectify a dish that should already be revised and perhaps taken off the menu considering that is a winter dish to begin with 🙄, we also had a burrata which I'm pretty sure frozen because had no creaminess rough and thick exterior nor much of a taste with these really thick slices of tomatoes with balsamic vinegar which we don't do in Italy EVER, the cheese should speak for itself , for mane course my partner had the salmon and it was just ok , needles to say I wouldn't be going there even after another 13 years , so much better restaurants...
