So I've yet to experience the happy hour and I'm not a shuckker by any stretch of the imagination. However I like sea food and I really enjoy a solid ambiance and location. In terms of location, you really couldn't ask for better. Located in the heart of the lower East side close to the famed St Mark's place, this little pool of seafood goodness is not obscured by it's surrounding competition. With a quaint out door seating both in the front and in the back, the Mermaid Inn comfortably gives you space to hold those friendly, boisterous or intimate gatherings. As a tall man at roughly 2.3 meters tall having legroom is vital to my comfort. With a quick look around most especially where I was seated, my concerns where quickly asuaded. As for the food, everything we ordered was quite tasty however for the price I would say the portions where quite small. With an abundance in food options however, if you're willing to spend the money you can really treat these main courses as tapas and get a bunch of them. Again come prepared however to spend some money here. Honestly there are better seafood places but if you're in that area and need a quick bite and you can take advantage of the happy hour, then I would highly recommend this spot. However if you're gonna hit this spot devoid of said happy hour then hopefully you've got an abundant pocket. You'll enjoy the food and you'll be quite comfortable whilst eating but that check at the end may be rough for those more...

Gotta say, not too impressed here. I had been looking forward to dining here for a while, and chose to come here with my boyfriend for my birthday. I started with the butternut squash soup, which was good though I've had better.

For my entree, I had the blackened catfish. The hushpuppies were tasty, but the catfish was undercooked and underwhelming. In retrospect, I probably should have sent it back, but I hate doing that. My boyfriend ordered the same thing, and his catfish was undercooked as well. I love blackened catfish, but I would have been better off making it at home myself. It's a pretty simple dish to cook.

We ordered the side of brussel sprouts, which were very tasty and I'd definitely recommend them. I'd have to say they were the highlight of the meal, which is pretty sad when you're at a nice seafood restaurant!

Maybe I would go back again if someone I was with really wanted to go, but probably not. $22 is too much to pay for underwhelming seafood. Bad seafood...

I had dinner with my sister, her husband and my mother in this restaurant tonight. We were sitting in a table next to a very noisy group, we asked our waitress if they could move us to another table and the manager said that It was impossible without giving any solution. Disappointed by the food as well; it was average. Our waitress disappeared in the middle of the dinner and never checked on us or apologized for the inconvenience. Then the waiter who took the dishes away dropped the plate on the floor and put some of the food on my mother’s leg. This can happen of course, but nobody apologized. overwall we were very disappointed with the manager’s attitude and we would not recommand this place to a friend or...

Fabulous location and ambience but the meal could have been better. Don't get me wrong, the food was tasty. The upper west side location is better, though. Mac n cheese was bland, fried oysters were soft-fried (very delicate exterior, melts in your mouth very quickly) when a slight crunch would have been nice and the calamari was much too chewy. The drinks were great and the service is nice, though they do get busy (as is expected). Definitely give the upper west side location a try, but make a reservation! All in all, 3/5 stars.

A lovely fish restaurant in the East side of Manhattan, where multiple choice of fish will delight either your lunch, dinner or even better happy hour. The quality is outstanding as well as the staff, always able to help and accommodate any request. Oyster, shrimps, calamari and many other will make your decision time very difficult. You can sit outside on a warm sunny day, the atmosphere inside is even warmer, where you will be able to see your food being prepared. An excellent fish restaurant highly recommended.
