It's rare that I rate anything because I feel like 5 stars means there is nothing to improve on or fix. This is one of those cases. I rate all things comparatively in buckets. So hotels are different from restaurants. Bars are different from Pubs. Lounges are different than clubs. So, in the world of Pubs, an Irish one in this case, Johns Sullivan's is definitely the best Irish Pub I've been too.
It starts with the atmosphere. From the second you walk in you are greeted by a very friendly woman, whether it's lunch or dinner. There is a long bar when you walk with plenty of seats to watch your favorite soccer match, or any sport for that matter, at all hours of the day. They will pretty much accommodate any request very quickly. The staff is Irish and friendly as well. My boy Owen is like your best friend and very willing to engage in a conversation about anything, especially sports.
This is probably also a great place to head to at night as they have another floor for dancing and partying. Haven't experienced it personally but if it's like the rest of this place I'm sure it's awesome!
They have about 15 beers on tap at all times, every liquor that you can think of, and the food is really good as well. I've had the burger, pulled pork panini, and my favorite, the Corned Beef Reuben. Everything was great and prices were very reasonable as well.
I know there are a ton of places to visit in NYC but if you are ever in the MSG or Times Square area this is definitely somewhere you should visit for a great time with...
Read moreI stopped by after work on Saturday the 18th of May around 7:00 PM. There was no one on the front to sit me, so I moved forward to the bar area . I noticed that most of the seats were occupied but some customers seem to be paying and then leaving, so I waited about 2 minutes before I sat myself because no one greeted me or accommodated me on my way in. When I sat at the bar, three young men (caucasian) asked me if I could shift to the next seat so the coud all sit next to another which I did. Even though I was there first, the three young men were assisted first. I didn’t mind, but after a while the bartender came to me said a word (which I couldn’t hear), placed the cup mat and before I could even say or ask for anything he walked away. (Caucasian, navy or black t-shirt, with a hair style shorter on the sides and longer heading forward hair on the top front) After a minute or 2 he came back and interated some more with the three young men again instead of me who was there first and waiting to order. He walket away again. At that point I realized that I wasn’t welcome to the place. I slowly got off the seat and found my way out. I will make sure not to ever come back again since there were clear indications that my ethnicity played a role on the way I was treated compared to...
Read moreIt was tough to nab a reservation for this place, but with delicious unlimited sangrias for the duration of your meal, it's easy to see why! They say your table reservation is for a two hour meal and that you can keep ordering sangrias until your party has finished eating the entree, but I don't think they enforce these policies strictly.
The sangrias come in a variety of flavors and are served in huge glasses - the coconut one is my favorite of the ones I tried. On the other hand, because of the large size of the drinks, you can't finish them as quickly or sample as many of the different drinks in the time allotted (so ... drink fast). The food was pretty good, reasonably priced (especially so when you add in the free alcohol!) and very well portioned, though not out of this world. The bread basket in the beginning though, WAS a special assortment - I liked better than the entree and dessert.
Overall super bargain for a boozy brunch. Will...
