Really nice and clean hotel with big rooms. My rating would be a 5, but the light motion sensor in the room is a killer.
My boyfriend and I stayed here during the week of the 4th of July. The room amenities, size, and price are unbeatable in New York. We paid around $1,000 total for a five-night stay. In New York, that usually gets you either a dirty, rundown hotel or a room the size of a shoebox. The room size was perfect for a couple traveling with luggage. We never once had to close our luggage in order to maneuver around.
People leaving negative reviews seem to expect Ritz-level service while only wanting to pay Motel 6 prices. For what Henn na charges, I think youāre getting an amazing deal.
Complaints about the lobby being small are odd. Yes, itās small, but thereās a bench to sit on while you wait. That seems totally sufficient. Some people suggest removing the dinosaur, but I think it adds charm and personality.
Pros:
⢠The AC was 1,000,000/10. It was extremely hot and humid outside, and this was the best hotel AC Iāve ever had. It got the room ice cold and didnāt make much noise. It hums quietly but is easy to tune out.
⢠Very close to subway stations. We never had to walk more than 2 or 3 blocks. Thereās a station at the end of the block for the A, C, and E lines, and another one nearby for the 1, 2, and 3 lines.
⢠The room was clean and included an extra pillow. No bugs anywhere.
⢠Just two blocks from Uber Shuttleās Penn Station pickup on 31st. We paid $15 per person to JFK. I believe the shuttle also goes from JFK to that stop, but we flew into Newark so Iām not 100 percent sure.
⢠We were on a high floor and didnāt experience much street noise. The hotel isnāt on a major road, so it felt peaceful.
⢠The steaming closet was a cool amenity. I didnāt get a chance to use it since the cycles looked long, but it was great to have available.
⢠The room included a tea kettle and two green tea bags. We didnāt use them, but it was a nice touch.
⢠The mini fridge was 100,000,000/10. It was big and got our drinks super cold. We fit lots of leftovers and drinks in there. Just note that thereās no microwave, so keep that in mind if you plan to reheat food.
⢠There were nightstands and outlets on each side of the bed, which made things convenient.
⢠The bidet was a nice touch. I believe this hotel chain is from Japan, and it was cool to see that feature.
⢠The blackout curtains worked really well and helped us sleep comfortably.
⢠There are two elevators and the hotel only has 18 floors. We never had to wait more than a minute or two.
⢠The hot and cold water worked exactly as expected.
⢠You get 10 percent off their restaurant. We didnāt eat there, but it had good reviews online.
⢠The area was pretty safe. We didnāt encounter any homeless people or any strange individuals.
Cons:
⢠The main room lights are motion-sensored and shut off after a minute (I timed it) if they donāt detect movement. We were eating at the built-in desk and the lights kept turning off. If you donāt wave your arms in time, you have to press the wall switch. The same thing happened while we were lying in bed. The sensor only catches one part of the room. Thereās no way to adjust the settings. Strangely, the bathroom and hallway lights are also motion-sensored but stayed on way longer. The timing should have been reversed.
⢠The water pressure in the shower was pretty low. It took longer than usual to rinse off shampoo and body wash.
⢠One of the towels had a yellow stain. It was small and probably missed during inspection, but I wanted to note it.
All in all, the Henn na Hotel was an amazing stay and I would come back in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Henn na hotel is in a prime spot in Manhattan, with Times Square, the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, and many other tourist spots only a short walk (or subway ride) away. There were entrances to the subway close by which was convenient and made it easy and cheap to get around the beautiful city. We enjoyed being able to walk to the different attractions and sites that were on our must-visit list. There are also many food spots close by, including a popular bagel spot next door to the hotel as well as the famous Joe's Pizza just a short (~10 minutes) walk away. There is also a CVS around the corner from the hotel that we stopped by to buy essentials. The hotel was beautiful and spotless, from the entrance to the room. You walk into the hotel and are greeted by not only the wonderful staff but also an animatronic T-Rex! If you have kids, trust me they will love this hotel. We saw people almost every day standing outside admiring the T-Rex and taking pictures of him through the front windows of the hotel. The customer service we received was excellent throughout our entire stay. All of the staff were attentive and welcoming. A special shout out to Jennifer from the front desk who was incredible and made us feel welcomed. I am super appreciative to her for all her help throughout our stay. Any questions I had she was more than happy to answer. She also made many great recommendations on places to visit in NYC. On our way up to our room, a guest in the elevator with us told us that we made the right decision to stay at Henn na. She mentioned how beautiful it is and how magnificent the housekeeping staff is. She was not wrong! The room we stayed in was spotless, tidy, spacious, and beautiful. I was fascinated by the Japanese style of the room. The wifi was excellent. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was spacious with a vanity-style mirror, and a bidet. My boyfriend and I slept soundly every night with clean and comfy sheets and pillows. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept on. A big thank you to the housekeeping staff for keeping our room spotless and tidy, especially Evelyn. She made sure that we were always happy and comfortable. Anything that we needed or wanted, Evelyn was on it. On top of that, she was one of the friendliest people I have ever met. Something that I really enjoyed about our hotel that probably no other hotel in NYC has was the LG styler closet in our room. It refreshes and sanitizes your laundry which is so useful, especially after a long sunny day out exploring NYC. We used it almost every day to refresh our clothes. Henn na is an amazing hotel and I highly recommend it to anyone planning on visiting NYC. We will definitely be staying here again when we visit. Thank you to all the staff for making our anniversary trip and my first trip to the Big Apple enjoyable...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis hotel was absolutely perfect for us as travellers and what we wanted to do in New York - we are not hotel dwellers. We got a great price for the area and anything compatible - we have learnt not to book weeks ahead in the US but in the week of intended stay in order to get best deals; however this was not peak season. On arrival you are met with a large dinosaur that will give you a little roar - but if Hen Na means strange in Japanese - there you go. |Reception was friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout - they gave directions, advice, rang to check on venues for us and when we had a slight problem with a power socket had it attended to straight away. There is free, secure baggage storage which is a good benefit around check in/ check out times even though checkout is generous at 11am.|We were in an executive king suite on the 17th floor - pretty sure after being there not the cheap room I had booked think we may have been upgraded.|The room was certainly large enough - king bed, side tables, chairs, TV, some dry cleaning type thing I didnāt try, small fridge (unstocked) , hanging space and room to move around. The room was clean and bed comfortable. No view if youāre that kind of person but then again if you are you booked the wrong place. It was cold in New York so thankfully the heating was good. The bathroom was modern and large enough for all our toiletries. The shower water was hot and the pressure very good. As mentioned in other reviews, heated seat on the bidet which I can say was a little bonus in winter - I have never used a bidet before but now Iām a convert!|So big ticks for room, bed and shower, the most important things in a room for travellers.|The other is location and this was perfect. Subway right nearby when you want to get to other areas (to see Statue of Liberty etc). Empire State Building and Madison Square Gardens within short walking distance to hotel and a Macyās right there for the shopping experience. One of our main focuses was Broadway shows and it was just a 10 minute walk (or 15 minute stroll) to the discount ticket office and the vicinity of all the theatres. New York is flat and it is easy to walk. You are crazy to take a cab in New York, especially anytime near a show. This is of course also where Times Square is located and all the people watching.|There is a Japanese restaurant in the hotel that we didnāt try, an Irish pub in the same street and a fitness centre across the road if youāre one of those crazies - we didnāt hear any of the street noise referred to in some other reviews. Next door is the best bagel shop ever (Iām not generally a fan of bagels but these are great). There is a line out the door for the whole time it is open but donāt be deterred it...
