They can’t charge phones, etc at all. Service is not very pleasant. I ate here last time few months ago and today I was starving for breakfast so I walked in cold for 20 mins from Columbia circle to here for breakfast. I brought my laptop and internet box and I hope they could help me charge my phone and plug the internet box on wall for internet. So I could do some work in the afternoon after food. But the waitress said can’t help. Phone is ok but not internet box. I asked why not that simple plug in plug out my internet box and I insist to negotiate with boss I thought you negotiate get what you want and finally he came talking to me rudely said WHAT I SAID NO is NO. He can’t help charge anything. I’m ok with can’t help after negotiations but please you are not my boss you don’t need to talk to me in that bossy intimidating attitude. I was starving desperate and scared. You can simply tell me you can’t help with a smile. I came all the way to enjoy your food and service do not deserve your attitude. The waitress service was not good at beginning either I felt they wanted me to leave. But towards the end, her attitude got better and the food was decent. At the beginning I said leave the menu I needed to order more later but she said not on table then put menu away. Didn’t refill coffee for me at first. Didn’t check on me at first till the end. The food whatever I tried were good but service was not great. I can’t say the food is bad when it’s good for me. That’s all. Even I wanted to come back for food again but I’m scared of the treatment I will get next time. I will search for other restaurants places nearby. But thanks for the chef. Edit reply: I didn't behave rude just didn't understand being curious why you could charge a $1000 phone but not a $30 internet box? And when I asked you you said: stop harrassing me, we can not charge anything. No is No. that is the answer. We can not charge phone either. Did you say that? Why you saying you can charge phones now and telling people here differently? Can you explain? Be...
Read moreWhat a hidden gem! In a slew of NYC restaurants, this place, while often crowded, stands out for lost charm. Originally, we ate at this location for a reason, 2 years ago. We returned recently, while on another trip to NYC with our children because of the food and service. (The noise level seems loud when you enter due to the tight space, but it's chatter and laughter and conversation of others dining. Don't let it turn you away.)
Good portions are large and filling. You feel like you're in your grandmother's dining room being fed- they fill the plate! Menu options are available for gluten-free meals, as well as vegetarian.
Though there's a small wait area, the staff does a good job at controlling the line to get you in and seated. Though there are booths, tables and countertop spaces (great for 1-3 eating), depending on your party size, there may be a wait. It may be best for smaller group sizes; definitely no more than 6. More than likely, you will wait, unless going early. We recognized some of the same staff from when we were there 2 years ago, so that tells us they're happy, or treated well - I mean, in a chaotic diner, you wouldn't stay working there if you weren't with so many options in the city! We loved our server at the countertop. I can't speak for others' service. Our server worked the same counter during our last visit as well, and for the 3 days we ate there, she remembered our faces and breakfast meal selections. She was kind, friendly and funny. It was good to see her still working there. There are bathrooms in the back right corner. You'll squeeze through, but they're there.
The only bad thing is that while the restaurant is handicap accessible per law, it is not handicap friendly for wheelchairs. There's honestly not even a space to park a wheelchair if a person can get up to transfer (unless they park it in front near the coat rack in the crowded entry). I'm not sure how they can improve this, but there is a good/low entry level for cane/crutch entry. A...
Read moreDuring our recent trip to New York, my wife and I found ourselves repeatedly drawn back to Andrew's Diner. In a city bustling with countless dining options, Andrew's Diner stood out to us for one simple reason: its authenticity. The greatest testament to its genuine New York spirit was the number of 'locals' who frequented the place. While many spots in the city cater to tourists, Andrew's is clearly a beloved favourite among New Yorkers themselves, which says a lot about its quality and atmosphere.
From the moment we walked in, it was clear we were in a classic New York diner. The ambiance was unpretentious and welcoming. Our server, quickly picking up on the fact that we were tourists, was kind enough to help us navigate the menu, explaining diner lingo like "over easy" and "wreck 'em." This was a relief, as it made the experience much more enjoyable and less intimidating for us.
Service at Andrew's was fast, prompt, and polite. The staff were not just efficient; they were also personable and attentive, striking the perfect balance between friendliness and professionalism. This made us feel right at home, despite being far from it. It was exactly what we had hoped to experience as a small yet essential element of New York life.
If you’re looking for an authentic diner experience in New York, Andrew's Diner is a must-visit. It's the kind of place where you can immerse yourself in the local culture, enjoy great food, and feel like a New Yorker, even if just for a while. We’re chuffed to have had this quintessential New York diner experience and highly recommend it to anyone...
