I recently visited this restaurant with my family for lunch, and I have to say that the overall experience was disappointing. While the food was passable, their signature dish, Chen Cun Fen, tasted just like regular Cheung Fun, and I fail to understand what all the hype is about.
Unfortunately, the service at this place was abysmal. One of the female waitresses had a terrible attitude, and I couldn't help but wonder if she was somehow related to the owner. When we tried to order four dishes for our party of four, one of them was unavailable, leaving us with only three dishes. Instead of helping us place our order, the waitress kept pushing us to order more, suggesting we get a veggie dish because she believed it wouldn't be enough for the four of us. Despite my request to order the three available dishes first and take a look at the menu for additional options, she seemed displeased and continued to insist we order more, even recommending specific dishes like Chinese broccoli and tong choy. Her persistence was extremely annoying, and I eventually gave in and ordered another dish.
To make matters worse, all the food we received was excessively salty. We had to compensate by drinking copious amounts of tea to balance out the flavors. As we waited for our food, another customer came in and sat down in front of us. I overheard the same waitress pressuring the customer to order a drink, seemingly trying to upsell and push customers into buying more food. It's understandable that a business wants to maximize its profits, but such tactics can be off-putting, especially when customers may not be particularly hungry or interested in ordering more.
Moreover, we were unable to finish our meals and ended up taking half of it to go. However, I must commend the lady behind the cash register, who I believe is the owner. While we were eating, a homeless person came into the restaurant and asked her for some food. She politely asked him to wait outside and disappeared into the kitchen. When she returned, she had a container of food for him. It was heartwarming to witness her act of kindness.
On the other hand, the same waitress who had pushed me to order more food expressed her disapproval, stating that giving food to the homeless person would only encourage him to return...
Read moreTERRIBLE PLACE! For the first couple of visits to the restaurant, the food was decent. The only concern that we had was that for the first visit, they added an exorbitant tip to the bill without our consent while requesting an additional tip! We had to talk with the owner/manager and she removed the outrageous mandatory tip and allowed us to tip at our own discretion like normal restaurants. So we tipped a reasonable amount which is about 15% for the first couple of visits. PLEASE DO NOT LIE THAT WE DIDN'T TIP!
Unfortunately, the third time we visited, the food quality substantially changed. They even tried to charge for a glass of tap water (free in NYC) by offering a bottle of water that I did not request. As I did not want any further trouble with the restaurant, I just finished my meal (yes, the food was very salty than usual) but the egg drop soup was extremely salty and we were unable to eat it at all. We respectfully requested to take it back as the egg drop soup was outrageously salty than usual. Unfortunately, they charged for the food we did not even consume plus the exorbitant involuntary tip again. When we questioned the owner/manager of the restaurant about the bill, she rudely responded, "It is none of my business, just pay". When I complained that I would call the police, they reluctantly removed the involuntary tip that they added but still charged for the food we did not even eat.
They lost potential loyal customers for an extra dollar or two quick profits with shady business practices. Did I say that they are racists? If you are not Chinese, you will be overcharged with involuntary outrageous tips unfairly regardless. AVOID THIS PLACE...
Read moreCame with the parents for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. The place was busy when we got there at 12:30. But there was a table available. They were a bit short staffed but when the waitress got to us she quickly took our orders and apologized for having us wait.
We ordered the following :
Pork Ribs Cherng Chun Fun Singapore Vermicelli Noodles Chicken Mushroom over Rice Peanut Pancake
Pork Ribs Cherng Chun Fun - this was a first for me. It's a saucy version of a hor fun(wide noodle) /Cherng fun. Your girl is very picky with her carbs but this was carb worthy! The pork ribs were super tasty which made you want more. The parentals inhaled it without one complaint which means it for their seal of approval!
Chicken Mushroom over Rice Decent portion of saucy stir fried chicken with shitake mushrooms and greens. Havent had this in eons and this was enjoyable.
Singapore Vermicelli Noodles They used a good curry for this and that's what makes or breaks this dish. Many places don't use the right curry but they got it right. It was flavorful and not greasy!
Peanut Pancake This was a nice sweet peanuty treatthat I'd order again!
Service was as friendly and...
