The vibe is cozy and unique, which started the meal off well. My partner and I eat vegetarian, which is generally quite easy in nyc. We had identified 4-5 dishes before we arrived that were vegetable-based and were happy with that. We ordered them and were enjoying, when the third item came out and the server warned us the peppers are very spicy and did we want to order anything else. The peppers were a bit too spicy to eat on their own for us without bread or anything else but I mentioned we had one more dish coming (we only ordered 4 so it wasn’t hard to remember). The server convinced us we had had all four and I was confused but said ok. We looked at the menu and very clearly had not had one of the dips and so again asked her. She said she had to check and eventually brought it out (~10 min later) and did say sorry. The check when we ordered took another 15 min or more to pay because they were unloading dishes and resetting the tables near us, they attempted to take both of our wine glass’s before they were empty, and in the end we left just feeling bad about the experience and uncomfortable. We hadn’t asked for special accommodation (the menu asks that you don’t), but did expect to get the dishes we ordered without having to press for it and without feeling like we hadn’t ordered enough (we were happy with the amount). I would have thought they’d offer something for this awkward experience and delay, but they seemed unaware that halfway through the meal, their service had tanked our dinner and that eventually we just wanted to get out of there and not keep waiting for them to take my...
Read moreI was excited to try this out. But was disappointed. The food was ok, it was an attempted to cook authentic Romanian food, but somewhat a fail. At least for a Romanian like myself. The micii is only lamb and beef and had a weird shape to it, it was dry and without Pork as it should be. The Zucusca was ok and the bread was a bit stale. They also spelled it the Russian way. If you want a good one, better off going to a eastern European market in Queens and getting some imports. The Mamaliga was ok, it wasn't really traditionally fluffy, it got messy for a bit. The stuffed peppers were good, and probably the best attempt. it had their own twist. I would go back for those if i had too. The bar had no Romanian wine, but Hungarian. Which, yeah. The atmosphere was pretty cool, things hanging on the wall as we typically do. They served the foods in really nice dishes and wooden spoons. I really liked that. Also i don't think any of the Chefs were Romanian and i think that is why it seems like it was an attempt on how to cook Romanian food but not close enough. Overall , I will only go back if i was in the area for a snack of the stuffed peppers.
If you care about the LES city experience then it might be for you. If you care about the Romanian food, better off going to Ridgewood or Sunnyside Queens to the few places we...
Read moreAmazing restaurant - a place to go with friends who really love a good meal. Not only was the food delicious but the vibe and staff and space were all wonderful, making it just an extremely lovely experience to dine at Oti. The food was soooo good - plenty of amazing starters that looked fantastic and tasted even better. I loved the dips (especially the smoky aubergine), burrata, the stuffed pepper, polenta, pickled mushroom toast with bone marrow ricotta, and the sausages. The stuffed pepper is really stuffed (basically a meatball wrapped in pepper) - was so delicious we had to get a second one! The service was great - loved the drink recommendations and their recommended pairings for food and drink. Thanks so much for such a wonderful meal! Also the outdoor space is so beautiful - feels really homey, spacious and relaxed - perfect way to spend a...
