Rancho Tequileria — Restaurant in New York

As someone who reads, writes, and appreciates reviews, this is one of the first times that I have submitted a bad review. it started with the hospitality. It was a birthday dinner, and there were to be eight of us. One friend was running late and we were told that we could not sit until the eighth person was there. OK, we thought… their loss —because we were ready to start with a round of margaritas. We are all friendly, polite people, and all couldn’t help but note the discruntled, disinterested staff. We agreed that the meal was adequate, if not inspired. To modestly celebrate the birthday, we ordered a couple of pieces of coconut flan, and churros, and a friend had bought a small slice of pie for a friend with a dietary constraint. As we lit a couple of small cake candles on the flan, churros, and pie, the previously disinterested waitress suddenly grew quite interested, marched up to the table and said sternly, “You can bring no food in from outside…” we explained that it was for a friend with a dietary restriction. She stood there sternly; we put the piece of pie away, paid the check, left politely —and agreed that any of us would never under any circumstances return to such a hostile, unpleasant environment.

I recognize that ours is just one group’s experience, but I think it was unpleasant enough...

There is not strong enough praise available for the experience my family and I had at this restaurant. The waitstaff/service was immaculate! They were literal sweethearts and so patient with us being in full bumbling tourist mode. They were so attentive without being overbearing. It was honestly the BEST experience! Also the food! Oh!! Soooooo good! I had tacos al pastor and my husband had tacos carnitas which we switched off with each other. Just amazing! Full of flavor, the tortillas weren't gummy or falling apart. Yum!! Their house hot sauces are all delicious. We always ask for the hottest house made sauces that most places will have and theirs is very good!! We had our very spice sensitive 9 year old with us and they accommodated her no problem. The entire waitstaff was helpful from start to finish. Back at the hotel I noticed I left my water bottle there and called them. They had it and held on to it for me to run by and grab the next day. I was thankful and impressed by how much it was not a problem and how nice they were about looking for it and holding on to it for me. 10/10...

So I went in last week ordered a burrito with rice and beans and fajita veggies the waiter recommended a cheese burrito minus the cheese it was not quite $16. So I ordered it again the lady on the phone tells me it’s $24. I said this is nearly twice what I paid last week. She gives me a flimsy explanation but I order it anyway. When I arrive i sit at the bar nobody acknowledges me and after a few minutes the server who took the order says my food is read. I hand the lady $40 and started to walk off when I noticed she gave me $6 change. I asked for the rest of my money she says I only gave her $30. Thank goodness she didn’t even have a $10 in her billfold to justify giving me the wrong change though she looked for it. She didn’t rely on my two twenties sitting on top where she put them she looked through every bill trying to justify ripping me off. To add insult to injury I asked for a receipt and she said she couldn’t give me one. So who knows if my $9 increase from last week wasn’t another attempt to rip me off. Ask for a receipt double check your change and beware of escalating...
