To call Tasca fusion cuisine, feels almost like a disservice. The blend of the different cultures into the various dishes on the menu is seamless and the taste exceeded every expectation. With a lovely ambience and service that has been genuinely unmatched at any of the restaurants we frequent in the city, this place has become our new favorite place. If the restaurant scheduling gods are on your side then Freddy will be your waiter for the evening and he will gladly help you curate the evening or dishes to your preferences.
Now on to the meal:
Drinks: We started off with the Empire Found (Smokey with strong tastes of chocolate and coffee which blended perfectly) and oceanographer (the best tropical punch you have ever had). Not typically a tequila fan, I tried the City of Gold, which had enough spice and citrus to make me forget it had tequila in it and it paired perfectly with a lot of the food.
Appetizers: While there were a lot of great options to start we went with a comfort classic. Croquetas, both types. The croquetas de mariscos had the most consistent texture and the flavor was to die for even for people who may not be all that fond of fish. However the croquetas de maduros took the crown because it was so perfectly balanced with sweet and savory.
Dinner: Tascaâs churrasco was incredible. It was a good sized portion of meat, the right amount of chimichurri and it was properly cooked. What more could you ask for.
Splurge Option: if you happen to be there when they have the rare jamĂłn ibĂ©rico, order it. Donât think about the price, donât think about the consequences, it is genuinely as...
Read moreCalled ahead of a Valentine's evening reservation that I'd be running a bit late, and they happily accommodated us. Their service is excellent - such friendly/funny staff, attention, and consideration. The waiter, Justin, checked-in on us regularly. And the woman I presume to be the manager was incredibly friendly. One of the front receptionists saw my partner & I taking pictures of each other and she immediately offered to take some of us both.
Atmosphere is warm and cozy, just what I was hoping for when I found the place on Maps. They really do a lot with the size of the space they have, though the tables against the wall seats are a little too long for comfortable conversation. We asked to be moved to more intimate seating they happily obliged. +10
The only critique I have was for the food itself. We had a Valentine's special three-course menu. We found that both our appetizer plates were exceedingly small portions that were slightly under-seasoned. The second-portion was a minty frappe that was actually in a very small glass, I'm not sure why I was expecting something taller. And the third-portion, for me, was a tasty pasta but, again, a portion that wasn't very filling at all. My partner's portion though, a steak with fries, was filling and well-seasoned. Their cocktails (I don't drink) were also mixed very well.
I'm chalking the food experience up to the fact that it was late, the chefs were probably serving these items all day, and may have gotten a little lazy near closing time. I would give them another chance on a non-themed night for the customer experience &...
Read moreWe can not say enough great things about Tasca. For an hour and a half we felt like we werenât even in Manhattan, but in a Spanish Caribbean resort restaurant. The entire place is so tastefully decorated and the ambience is so warm and welcoming.
Jose was our server and was an absolute joy and heâs also quite the comedian (but no really heâs a real one) . His recommendations were spot on and we couldnât be happier with the IMPECCABLE service he provided us.
With that said, ALL the staff is extremely attentive and these people are great at what they do .
Rodrigo was also extremely friendly and helpful as well, and the general manager is beyond professional.
Now the food/drinks :
Drinks: vodka lemonade and a fruit mock tail:excellent
Appetizer: veggie empanadas, CRISP AND YUMMY. Dipping sauces were incredible and create so much depth of flavor
Mains: churrasco with chimichurri and octopus entree (it was a special). The octopus was tender and unctuous and The churrasco was a PERFECT medium rare and MELTED in your mouth . The yuca fries were ON POINT
dessert:
Coconut tres leche was scrumptious and the trufa (chocolate truffle) with raspberry sauce were the perfect finish to our wonderful evening
To sum it up: the service is UNMATCHED, everything is packed full of flavor, and the prices are beyond affordable . Less than $200 for all three courses for 2 people . Get yourself to Tasca for the perfect date night or any occasion. Theyâre really incredible , and just a few short blocks from 81st museum of natural history station.
Thank...
