7/30/21-Ammendment: The location management reached out and tried to fix the problem. Regardless of my prior experience with the location, the location at least values its customers and attempts to fix any problems. The small amount of rice is an issue, but i understand why the prices for the platters are so high, its because of rent. The carts can charge lower prices because of no-rent, but store-fronts like this need to pay rent, so higher prices make sense to cover that. All in all, not such a bad location, will probably dine here again.
7/19/21- The halal guys This location is the absolute worst. They charge a premium for their platters, yet give so little rice that you can see the the bottom of the tin container, regardless of what size you order, and this isn't an isolated incident. I've ordered from here like 20-30 times in the past 12 months, and everytime its the same.Be especially wary of ordering your platter with salad, you will get even less rice than you would without the salad. You'd think they would skimp on the protein since its costs a lot more than rice per capita, but they skimp on the rice of all things. All this to push out a few more half-filled platters. I guess they put profit over quality of service. Honestly for $11+ per regular platter, you'd be better off eating elsewhere, you'd definitely get more food for your buck. I'm honestly fed up with this location and its excuses for leaving the platters half empty. The Halal Guys carts have always filled platters to the brim with tons of meaty goodness, and for less, i think $8 or $9 right now per regular platter, but a completely full one. Its absolutely despicable that this location cheats its customers for measly profits, while using the name of a brand well-known for its generous portion sizes. Whatever the owner's doing, he's doing it wrong. Extremely dissatisfied, not ordering...
Read moreI visited NYC recently. I grew up there but moved to PA a few years ago. We come back occasionally. I have eaten Halal food (always chicken over rice) from push carts and food trucks for many years. The chicken is usually an orange/red color from the spices/flavors added to give it the smell and taste that we love. It was Sunday and the usual cart I get it from was not there. It was hard to find one actually. I was near LIC so I googled it and this place came up. I was starving and didn’t bother to read reviews. I got the chicken over rice regular platter. The size was very good. The flavor of the chicken was bland, no spices, no color, no flavor. It looked and tasted like cooked chicken. The rice was good and lettuce/tomato was fresh.
I usually get white sauce and same amount of barbecue sauce. They don’t put the sauce on, they give you packets. Weird since it gives you that processed food vibe. But the white sauce came in a big packet. And it was very good. He gave me 2. And 2 barbecue packets. But bbq came in a standard packet like ketchup, so 2 packets is not much. Yes my own fault for not checking but I was so hungry I just didn’t even think to check. I drove where my wife was to pick her up and I ate there.
I ate it because I had driven from PA that morning and it was 1pm and I hadn’t eaten yet. But I wouldn’t recommend it. It seems like the name has/had some appeal but I didn’t experience that. And the platter and a 20oz coke was $16 and change.
$7-8 from a truck or cart.
The service was great. Greeted me, which is rare for NYC. Food was ready in a couple of minutes. ...
Read moreI ate here twice and both times the food was subpar. It is not a real restaurant, and is a catering location. You can't see the meat being cooked as all the cooking happens in the back kitchen. My first visit had poor quality meat. My second visit had incorrect ingredients in the sandwich and the pita was hard and unable to be chewed.
Dear owners, fix your online ordering system. You have options to remove lettuce, remove tomato, add onion, and add green peppers. I wanted all four of these on my gyro. I selected add onion and add green peppers. It looks like the worker saw the order and interpreted that to mean only add onions and green peppers. He completely omitted the lettuce and tomato. Make all...
