I'm a newbie to yoga as a consistent, daily practice and have been to many different studios and teachers. I either felt too out of place or frustrated with my lack of skills early on, leading me to quit. It was hard to feel supported as a beginner in overly large classes or with teachers I didn't mesh with.
I took a break and tried a different practice. I googled "qi gong and tai chi" and found a workshop offered at Form + Flow.
From the outside the building looked nondescript, gray -- like every other building in NYC. Upon stepping in I was transported into a different place. HUGE tropical plants welcomed me into a bright, sun-lit space. Artwork from members of this community hung on the walls.
It was inviting. I immediately felt the stress of the NYC grind just melt away -- it was an indescribable feeling without even taking a class.
Apparently they also do retreats, sound meditations with singing bowls, shruti boxes, chimes and other instruments I'd never seen before. They offer different styles of yoga with various teachers from all kinds of backgrounds and skill levels.
There's something for everyone here. I'm excited to be a new member of a community that supports my budding yoga practice AND other aspects of my creative, spiritual and mental well-being. Thank you...
Read moreWhat an incredible addition to this neighborhood! I was so excited to hear that a yoga studio was coming to our side of LIC, and when I heard that Nikki was going to be teaching I was even more thrilled. I've admired her practice for many years, and she's even more amazing in person than she is online. I've taken almost all of Form and Flow's class offerings from almost all the instructors. Every teacher (and all the staff) is wonderful, and there's definitely something for everyone. I particularly enjoy Paula, Britt, Angelica, and Todd's classes!! In class I enjoy that there are always options to challenge your strength and flexibility, and also always options to take a step back and have a more restorative practice. The studio itself is brand spanking new, spotless, and such a nice oasis within the big bustling city. Also, the studio has two totally windowed walls so there's beautiful light in the daytime. Great vibes! Can't recommend this...
Read moreThis studio is exceptional. A high quality, neighborhood experience for LIC residents.
The heart, diversity and energy of this community is rare.
Shelly, the owner of Form + Flow, is one of a kind. Itâs easy to see/ feel how much she loves supporting the community through this space.
Form + Flow is refreshingly, authentically real in a sea of yoga studios focused on exclusivity and social media metrics.
It is the most welcoming second home for yogiâs of all backgrounds/ experiences.
The teachers are all phenomenally gifted/ with many years/ decades of teaching.
And the curation of workshops, cacao ceremonies and sound meditations are always such a treat.
Queensbridge is the original location⌠but there is a second location closer to the waterfront.
The community is exceptional no matter which studio you go to
