Well this was a very pleasant surprise, once you find it. Located in the lower level of a sizeable home, there’s no real “sign” outside. There’s a hand-written sign that said “OKAY” that you could see from the street, saying it’s OK to enter.
You walk in and are greeted with bar seating (approximately room for 12) and a lower table that I think could fix 6 in a pinch. That said, it’s not cramped at all. The bar and seating “surround” the kitchen and prep area, where you are waited on by one owner, as the other cooks your meal to order.
Coffee is french pressed to order, and smelled amazing. Everything there is made by them - including the breads - and it shows in the taste, texture, and quality.
I had a special Beef Tenderloin Benedict that I wanted to lick the plate clean it was so good. Perhaps I should have…
We will make it a point to come back here. It was good enough that I may hop on the motorcycle some afternoon from Everett, stay in Newport, just to have that Benedict again. It was that good. My wife’s hash was reportedly delicious as well.
A note on the hours - the owners seem to do this for the love of food and conversation. Don’t be dissuaded by their short operating window, just be motivated to make it. They were as awesome as the food.
Lastly, some early reviews discussed cash only, but they do take credit cards now...
Read moreOn our most recent trip to Newport, my husband, in a fit of early morning insomnia and hunger pangs, found Arr Place on Google. By the time I woke up, he was champing at the bit. Rarely is Joel wrong about food, and I have to say, this find was his finest yet. We almost missed it. It looks like a regular house, except a small, handwritten sign by the door that says it’s okay to come get something to eat. It’s more than okay. It’s magic. Arr Place is truly special. It’s like being in a friend’s kitchen, except I don’t think any of my friends can cook like Robert and Amy. The atmosphere is homey, and because Amy and Robert are absolutely lovely people that you can talk to for hours, you forget that you’re in a restaurant at all. And the food! Good lord, the food. It’s made with love and passion and intention, and it shows in the amazing flavor. Joel and I literally clutched each other when we had our first bite of the turtle Sunday and I nearly wept over the eggs Benedict. We will be coming back just to eat here. Thank you,...
Read moreEverything locally sourced, organic, fresh, from the farmers markets. This place is beyond words, there’s not enough stars. Come here if you appreciate quality and this identifies “made with love”. If you’re looking for quick and easy go do your thing but if you love food, this place is incredible! Mom and pop owned and operated. Sit on the right if you want a free show. We’ve been on the road for a few weeks and eat out a lot, this is by far the best food we’ve had, like ever. Love the hidden gem, it’s not easily noticeable, we walked by and didn’t realize it was a freaking diamond of a breakfast joint, looks like a house. The seasonal mix was phenomenal. The salmon Benedict made me like fish which I’ve always been grossed out by. The Bloody Mary is PERFECT. The coffee is in French press. These guys are incredible. Thank you for the amazing experience! I’m terribly sorry for my sailor mouth just before we left when I was explaining how freaking good...
