My husband and I come down several times a week. He can't walk far so the handicap spots are good for him as he likes to listen to the waves and relax. The beach itself is always busy. All are being careful and majority of them are wearing masks. If it can be done almost everything can be fun on the sand. Kids unloading from their vehicles are in such a hurry to get to the beach. A lot of sand digging and just running around. People come early to look for agate. Men out with their metal detector's and always someone flying a kite. Last couple of weeks have seen the bubble man and para Sailing. My personal likes are the people with their dogs. All sizes and breeds chasing balls and when playtime is done owners and dogs head out and both maybe tired but when they look at each other the owner grins and dog wags their tail all are happy. Close to eating and shopping, public restrooms are available. Benches and tables for picnics or just sitting and enjoying the views. Read moreI'd love to rate Nye Beach higher than three stars. It's one of my favorite places in Newport.
It offers easy beach access, beautiful views and tons of open space to walk or hang out.
The reason I have to give it 3 stars instead of five is because of a longstanding issue with bacterial contamination. There is a large storm drain outlet at Nye Beach that drains out onto the beach itself. That normally wouldn't be an issue but the outflow from the drain is very often contaminated with very high levels of fecal bacteria which have the very real possibility of causing serious illness. There are signs posted warning of the danger and the city has taken steps to address the issue, but to date the problems that cause the situation persist and it's likely that won't change for the foreseeable future.

High tides come all the way up shoreline without warning if need to escape to higher ground in hurry. sunny days & tourist season here are hectic.
