Blue Pig Bakery — Restaurant in Newport

I reached out to the bakery to order a cake for my wife's birthday. They didn't have a lemon cake, but were willing to give it a shot if we were okay with that. I asked for cream cheese frosting which they normally don't make also. After chatting with Nick a few time, and he speaking with his Wife Ruby, we settled on a lemon cake, with lemon cream cheese frosting. I sent them a few styles of cakes of theirs that I liked the look of and said I like these, but ill give creative freedom. Now don't let the writing detour you. My wife is a huge Harry Potter fan. Originally I was going to have them replicate the cake that Hagrid gives Harry. However I decided to just ask for the writing on the cake to mimic Hagrids. And they nailed it. Beautiful cake with the writing of a 5 year old. This cake was dense, and soft. They made a lemon curd for the center which I had never had before. The cake wasn't gut aching sweet. It was perfect. The lemon zest in the frosting was just enough to say "oh thats fresh" and still let in the cream cheese frosting flavor come through. The lemon curd was this smooth creamy texture that when it hit your taste buds it gave the side of your tounge this quick tangy snap of lemon that you could feel into your jaw. It was the perfect balance of lemony tangy sweetness. Ruby did a beautiful job, and gave me more than I hoped for. It was definitely worth the 75 minute drive there from the valley.

Every time we visit Newport we always stop in at Blue Pig Bakery for a treat at least once, if not twice. You can see from the reviews the cinnamon rolls are delicious - they are my husband's go-to! But let me tell you, EVERYTHING here is AMAZING! We have tried the coffee cake, a variety of the scones, cookies, almost everything they have and have never been disappointed. Our last visit I tried the savory breakfast muffin and I can say that I think about that muffin often. The seasoning was perfect, the favor was so satisfying. I cannot wait for our next trip back to get another one.

Enough about the food - the staff is always so friendly and are always willing to suggest items to try. It is very clear that the owners and their crew love what they do.

My only complaint is that I wish there was more seating available. Sometimes it can be challenging to find somewhere to sit. When the weather is nice we often take our coffee and treats out to the beach which is a great...

This bakery & shop is an absolute delight!

The seating is scattered throughout the shop, and I got to enjoy my cinnamon roll and cafe au lait while sitting next to the bride.

She was quiet but since her dress must be at least 60 years old, she's been waiting a long time for her beau to show. I suspect she's so quiet because she's contemplating how to move on after being jilted at the altar. 😉 [...a little tongue in cheek humor]

While I sat with my treat, shoppers meandered back and forth through the shop, commenting on how wonderful it smells, marveling at the eclectic mix of romantic vintage & whimsical new items for sale, and even chatting with me as they wandered past my table. I'm a very social butterfly, so sharing the whole experience with other shoppers made my visit here even more special.
