Tucked away in a quiet mall behind Walmart and Sam's near Highway 526 and I-26, Baba Kabob and Market is a hidden gem. This family-run spot combines a cozy Middle Eastern restaurant with a connected market and deli offering halal meats. The menu, while concise, delivers a fantastic selection of halal Middle Eastern dishes, each prepared with care and bursting with flavor.
For dinner, I tried the Egyptian Hawawshi wrap—a traditional pita stuffed with spiced minced meat, onions, peppers, parsley, and optional chilies. It was incredibly juicy, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. The lamb shawarma wrap, however, was a bit dry for my taste. When I mentioned this to the owner, he personally ensured my satisfaction by promptly replacing it with a mouthwatering kabob skewer and gyro lamb platter—both were phenomenal. The owner’s dedication, humility, and passion truly shine, as he wouldn’t let me leave until I was thrilled with my meal.
I capped off the experience with pistachio baklava, which was crispy, flaky, and perfectly balanced—not overly sweet and utterly divine. If you’re in North Charleston, Baba Kabob is a must-visit for authentic, delicious Middle Eastern kabobs. Highly, highly...
Read moreMy fiancé and I had lunch there yesterday, we chose this place based on the reviews and the pictures of the food that people shared. When we got there no one was around to sit up, there were some unfinished plates in the dining area from previous customers that nobody cleaned up. We finally ordered some food, which was the LENTIL soup and the KIBBEH, overall the lentil soup was good but it had a bitter taste, and the kibbeh had a very hard texture. My fiance got the chicken kabob as an antre and I got the mixed kabob which it says on the menu that comes with two skewers of ground lamb kabob but mine was just one. The portion of the food was very good, the chicken kabob was very good BUT the rice was a huge disaster, it was cold and chunky it wasn't fresh at all ( that I know because my mom has a restaurant and I know the taste of fresh esteemed rice ) the taste of the lamb kabob was OKAY 🤷🏻♀️ but the texture (omg) it was bad very bad, very chewy like rubber because they put it in the fridge with no plastic cover and the raw meat got dry out. Our bill came to 100 dollars which wasn't worth it at all, there were some mistakes when the lady was giving our bill and I showed her the...
Read moreGreat grocery and great deli in an unexpected place. One of my favorite places for a quick lunch.
The selection of spices the market carries are special to me because they are sometimes hard to find. There are several different halal meats and cheeses. They carry not only the "pocket" pita but also the thinner (similar to mountain bread) pita in two sizes. Olives, grape leaves, tahini, tea, ghee, bulgur... anything you might need to make a special meal or dish.
The owner prepares the food perfectly. The recipes are authentic but have the chef's own creative twist. If you have any questions about the preparation of any part of the meal he will take the time to explain. Great meals at great prices.
There is a selection of different types of drinks to enjoy or have with your meal. The last time I was there another customer was asking about alcohol. She was surprised that he didn't serve any alcohol. This is a Halal establishment and it will not carry alcohol because of that.
You can't go wrong with lunch at the Jerusalem...
