Great concept, well-carried-through, & the service is amazing: I needed to eat outside for health reasons, and the young man came out and seriously cleaned & sanitized the table (as opposed to the more common perfunctory swipe). I gave Piada 5 stars because provides exactly what it promises: It's Italian done fast, in that new, "Pick-your-add-ins" style, like a sub sandwich shop. It is Italian street food, so the atmosphere also is "hip and fun," but not aiming for cozy, quiet. Likewise, the food is not my Grandfather's Michelin 5 Star Italian, but it IS fresh, fast, and offers way better nutrition than most American counterparts.
The pictures look sooo enticing online, but in reality, as with most authentic street food, it was just piled in layers & weakly mixed right in the to go container that I would be eating from on the patio.
Perhaps pre-mixing in another, larger mixingbowl might be an easily do-able fix so that diners would not have to worry about losing food to the table if they stirred, else be forced to eat through a mound of olives to reach peppers, then spinach then be left with semi-nekkid pasta. And I guess the add-ins are kept cold(?), so my food was cold when I sat down - BUT - to be fair, I am absolutely certain these guys would have heated it for me, no problem. I just have a condition that made me too exhausted & hungry to bother.
If I were allowed one more suggestion, it would be, to have for sale, as an added price, a small side 2-tblsp dressing size container of the best quality olive oil you can find. (Keep the oil in a light-protected pump to cup out fresh as you go). This would really bring out the flavors to "updo" streetfood (and ramp up your anti-cancer/pro-brain health points).
You could even have differently infused flavors of this best quality oil for those who like to go heavy on garlic or red pepper. Just a thought. ...Well, and maybe .50 cents for 2 fresh basil leaves off a big plant (I mean you have the perfect window for it, and room outside for big flower pots, good soil)...Ok...ok...ok...I'll stop.
Here's wishing diners, "Buon appetito!" And all the folks at...
Read moreHas potential... NOT the 5star glowing reports I read ... today. ....Ever see a gymnastics or ice skating show where the high speed music is zipping right a long and bouncing energetically, but the athlete is barely gliding along lethargically???? This restaurant was totally deflated. Everyone seemed depressed and put upon, like their parents had just reprimanded them, all.
While I was there, an online order was not received, and so not filled... the "chef"(?) in a white coat turned from filling orders to address the computer, a guy in a black apron came from the back to look over his shoulder, while a girl in a black apron turned from finalizing orders to also look on, then the cashier went over... all production stopped. Then the guy in the black apron seemed to notice the half-filled orders sitting in the bench and turned to work on them, and then cashier returned to her spot. The chef seemed really distracted from the task, and no words seem to have been said between him and the others, just looks.... seems something went down before I got there, but no one's tellin'.
As for the food... NOT special.
... the noodles (penne and spaghetti) were both dry, very... not like al dente, and not uncooked... more like "sat out too long after having been cooked" dry.
I WANT to like this restaurant. I WANT to return for an apparent panini'd pepperoni/torilla rollup. Or get an avacado wrap... But, Im having a real hard time wanting to return. Are there other locations? Maybe I should try another location.
I dont give a lot of 2 or 1 star reviews. Im not sure that this location can pick up the vibe or "zoozsh" their menu enough to recover...
Read moreThis place used to be good, but it’s really gone downhill. My boyfriend and I both have serious health issues and have to be careful about allergies, especially dairy. The Italian guy with the nose ring put cheese on my boyfriend’s food twice, even though we never asked for cheese at all. He had to remake it, and then we still had to wait for sausage after both of our meals were already done. My boyfriend also got chicken on his, and it was honestly so gross — dry and flavorless.
What made it worse was how the Italian guy and the older white man treated the young Black girl working as the cashier. They were rude and openly berated her right in front of customers. It was uncomfortable and honestly sickening to watch. No one deserves to be talked to like that at work.
On top of that, a lot of menu items are gone — no calamari, no zucchini, and the penne has been replaced with rigatoni. Between the poor service, rude behavior, and declining food quality, this place isn’t what it used to be. If ownership or management changed, it...
