I've been here several times before. Whether I came with friends, family, or just swung by on my way home from work, the staff were always friendly and worked fast. Had I not had my experience there today, I would've given this place five stars.
Recently, a co-worker at my primary job recommended that I try out Postmates as a way to earn some extra money on the side. My financial situation isn't exactly the greatest, so any additional funds I can receive is greatly appreciated, hence why I jumped on her suggestion to try my hand at being a delivery driver.
Today was the first time I was going to give it a go. I got in my car, and waited for an order to come in. The very first order I get is at a place I recognized, the Milk Tea shop on 25th. I was genuinely excited, albeit nervous due to having social anxiety. Doing something like this actually scares me somewhat, despite how easy and simple it sounds. I wanted to try though, to give it my best effort. But literal moments after entering the building, any excitement I had quickly faded.
The employee who greeted me stood roughly around my height, I'd say about 5'10", had black hair and wore a Utah Jazz cap. For the first minute or so, he barely said anything, just staring at me as I explained what I needed. He asked if I was wish DoorDash or Postmates, a seemingly irritated tone in his voice. After replying that this was my very first delivery for Postmates, he launched into a tirade about how awful companies like this are, how they damage small businesses, among many other things. He was very liberal in the use of profanities, yet strangely apologized to me saying he was sorry that I had to deal with "beast mode" (whatever that means). The entire time he kept making the order, he continued to rant about how much he despised Postmates specifically, along with all those who drove for the service. He said that I seemed like a nice guy, but despite that, continued to be incredibly rude and hostile.
When the time came to pay for it, he refused to even tell me what the total was for the order, as well as not give a receipt after paying. When I informed him that I needed the total and the receipt, he said it wasn't his problem, and that I had to deal with it. For a couple of minutes, I continued asking for the information I needed, but to no avail. He continued to refuse, and told me to deal with it myself, or to give him the customers number so he could get ahold of them. There was another employee there at the time as well, though they stayed in the background and didn't get involved at all, instead laughing a bit when they found something their coworker said to be funny. Eventually, I gave up. I canceled the order and left the store, frustrated and nearly ready to give up.
I understand if he doesn't like dealing with delivery services such as these, and that a business has the right to refuse service to anyone they choose... but this genuinely hurt me. The hate and vitriol he threw my way despite saying I was a "nice guy" was completely unwarranted. This is no way to treat someone patronizing your business, and certainly no way to treat a fellow human being. I'm not sure if I'll ever come here again as a customer, though DEFINITELY not as a delivery driver.
The Pokemon/Gorillaz themed mural was really cool though, props...
Read moreIâve been here several times and had no issues ever but I did visit yesterday and it made me question if I would come back sadly. I had went with my friend and he had asked if one of the FEATURED menu items was smoothie style like it was in bold letters on the menu screen and the girl behind the counter looked at him as if he had asked her some absurd question. She was like âwe donât know what that even isâ and he pointed up at it and she was like âyea I donât know what it isâ. So then he was like okayy so then what can you guys make then and sheâs like âpineapple smoothieâ so he just got that since they didnât know anything. And I say this because when I was ordering I wanted a coffee with regular boba (which again is in fact on the menu) I had asked if they had milk alternatives and she again was like âumm idk I can lookâ so she goes to look and then comes back a few mins later to tell us. On the menu it says you can get coffee with flavoring so I was asking what flavors do you offer for the coffee and she literally again looked at us like we were asking the hardest question ever. She goes âlike what do you mean flavorsâ low key I was flabbergasted. Like I literally was like the thing you put in coffee to make it taste even better⌠and the only thing she could come up with in her head was âI can make Carmel macchiatoâ and I was like sure letâs do that then. I asked if I could get it over ice and then again she WAS CONFUSED I was kinda shocked I was like yes I want it over ice like ???? I donât know if both of these girls were brand new and un supervised or maybe high I donât know but seriously I just couldnât believe I had to explain everything for them. We waited prob over 10 mins for them both to be done which is fine but then I sip up the boba pearls they were hard in the middle so they werenât even cooked all the way it was just so annoying for both drinks it cost close to $20 for all of that. Iâm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they were new and left in supervised but it still was just a...
Read moreUnfortunately, I am lowering my review and I won't be returning again as a customer. The main reason is that far too often my order is poorly made or incorrect. It's has just happened far too many times at this point.
Sometimes, I've had the wrong boba type in my drink, and twice I have received a drink with no boba at all even though I ordered it.
This time, I ordered watermelon with normal boba. Upon receiving it, I thought the color was unusually beige, because normally the watermelon is a lightish pink. I made the mistake of trying it after I had left and I couldn't taste any watermelon at all - it tasted like pure non-dairy creamer. Very disappointing and it's just far too common that my order is plain bad here (photo attached).
Also, to reiterate on my previous review (below), there is still not really any seating or decor inside. I never have had any desire to stay here with my drink and chill, except for back in 2017-2019 when they used to have a couch and proper seating. I find the lack of effort to provide seating very low effort, and it makes me really not like coming here because you have to take your drink and go.
I'm sorry to write this review as I love boba and would love to see this shop thrive in our downtown, but the quality is just too bad.
Previous review: (3/5) I like the establishment overall and the drinks are good. They have a lot of different flavors and some are really unique flavors for the area. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait which is fine. I think the areas for improvement are:
1). It seems like they try to have as few people on shift as possible which seems to be very overwhelming for the workers.
2). I really wish they'd bring back the seating. This place could be a 5-star hangout if it was more atmospheric inside and you could spend some time hanging out at the cafe. I came more often when there were couches and seating. For the last year or two it's only been a to-go shop.
3). Small to mention, but I think photos on the menu would help clarify the...
