Nunu's is such a gem and happy to live so close to this Mediterranean cafe! Located on the N side of Memorial Road, between Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Yakimono Sushi, this cafe can often be overlooked, especially since we've passed by Nunu's several times and hardly see cars visiting it. However, don't let that fool you.
Upon entering the warm-colored cafe, you are immediately welcomed by staff and left to decide what you would like to order amongst their decently sized menu. The cuisine - you name it - is indeed Mediterranean (e.g. Baklava, Hashwa, Pita Wraps, dishes wrapped in Grape Leaves and/or Cabbage). We've been here a few times now, and our favorite is their Beef Kafta and Hashwa (essentially rice with various seasonings). However, if you are unfamiliar with Mediterranean, definitely try their Sampler Platter underneath Specialty Plates! This will allow you to try their chicken, cabbage roll, Haswa, Beef Kafta and various other dishes that they serve. You CANNOT go wrong with this choice! The food comes out quickly and very hot; the flavors are just mouthwatering; there is many spices that seem to go into their dish but it still pays ode to the base ingredient, whether it be rice, chicken, beef, and etc. It's just wonderful.
For seating arrangements, you can choose to station yourself anywhere there is a table. On a random note, whenever we were seating ourselves, the place got packed FAST with people! I know that I have a picture of an empty restaurant, but trust me, A LOT of people do come in here and sit down for a good meal. Drinks and other various seasonings are available at 2 bars on each end of the restaurant, so there's not a "true server" to your table. But with that said, I definitely want to say that there is such great people working here behind the counter, who genuinely seem to want a good experience for you behind their smiles.
So in summary, definitely give this place a try! There's everything to love about this place and is great to try, whether you want a sit down at a cafe/restaurant, or take out. ...
Read moreNunu's...I can't even...their food is the stuff dreams are made of. Husband and I were thinking of healthy food the other day. Something along the lines of cool, fresh, and crunchy on a warm afternoon. Nunu's came to mind. They have a patio to enjoy a nice day yet the Oklahoma wind encouraged us to sit indoors at their cute little tables. Since we haven't been indoctrinated in their culture and cuisine (yet), we needed some input from them. There are at least three friendly young men behind the counter to assist with descriptions and interpretations. I believe their mother built and owns the restaurant. She is from one of the Mediterranean countries. She offers a mixture of Greek, Italian, and other Mediterranean-type cuisine. We chose to share a cucumber salad and cabbage rolls as sides but then my husband had his main dish (pita with beef) and I had a pita chicken sandwich. We have different tastes and preferences. The food came pretty quickly, but I did have time to enjoy the atmosphere. It was easy to imagine being in the "old country" with the simple warm decor and young guys visiting as they prepared food. There are pictures of family amidst a plethora of crosses on one wall. I'm guessing Greek Orthodox, but I could be wrong. Again, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Speaking only of what I ate, the cucumber salad and pita chicken sandwich, the food was plenty, fresh, and yummy. The cucumbers had been marinated, then smothered in thick, creamy Greek yogurt and dill. The pita was stuffed with a cool chicken mixture and dark green romaine lettuce with some sort of vinaigrette dressing. Unlike previous experiences with pita bread, there were no leaks and no dressing running down my arms. There was plenty of food inside, but the bread didn't split. My Husband said he enjoyed his food very much as did I. We will return many...
Read moreOkay so I have literally been coming here for years. At least a decade. This place not only has some of my absolute favorite Mediterranean food in the whole city (and I eat a LOT of Mediterranean), but it also has the sweetest staff. The place itself is absolutely adorable especially out front where they have the most gorgeous garden that they try to keep up all year round. It is an oasis of beauty in an otherwise pretty concrete world. I almost always get the veggie sampler platter which is any vegetarians happy place, though I am not a vegetarian. For whatever reason I just love it, it's just so yummy! I will tell you though, Hashwa is an addiction. My husband and children would live off of it if we could afford it (and it wasn't nutritionally unbalanced 😂😂😂). I also highly suggest the Z fries if you have a penchant for potatoes, like my Irish self. I am actually very picky about my fries and these always turn out phenomenal and the seasoning is so good. I'm also a big fan of their baklava. I like that they have multiple kinds and you can also pick up packages of it to take home if you actually want to share or eat the whole thing by yourself whatever works.😉 As I am a very busy woman owning multiple businesses, I tend to get my food mostly to go nowadays and I love that they are always very quick about getting the food together and They don't do anything weird like change their portions, as I've noticed some businesses do, for to-go. Definitely one of our star small businesses in the city, make sure you...
