Panang 2 dishes out more than satisfying meals, service, and atmosphere. After entering the restaurant, you are welcomed by framed paintings of Thai Elephants and eventually an open-concept dining room. The sitting hosts are also the servers - and each one of them were very welcoming, attentive, and quick to order. The menu is simple, clear, and informative. They also have daily lunch specials from Monday through Friday (see photos for more details) where you can choose different sides to combine into one meal. Everything looked appropriately priced for a Thai restaurant (in fact, some even more affordable than other Thai Restaurants we've attended). In the end, we ordered Thai Iced Tea, the Monday Lunch Special (w/ Pad Thai Noodles, Spring Roll Vegetable, Red Curry Chicken, & Basil Pork) and an appetizer of Angel Wings (Boneless Chicken). As we waited for the food (which was not long, literally less than 10 minutes), we noticed a variety of people eating inside - a family, businessmen, friends meeting and chatting over lunch, couples dating, and a birthday table; this restaurant is what I would consider "medium sized" in how many people can be seated, but it was very busy and lots of people looked content, happy, and satisfied. Seeing their countenances just made my company and I anticipate the food even more - and we weren't disappointed! The food was incredibly delicious, clean, hot, and surprisingly fulfilling (we had leftovers - and the lunch special & appetizer was shared between my husband and I). The lunch special is an incredible bargain; the proportion is more than enough for one person (unless you're just starving and haven't eaten for days) and is something we will order again. We would order the Angel Wings Appetizer again too, but next time, we'd order another appetizer to try something different. Overall, there is no negatives that I could find with this place and we will most definitely be coming back! Order the Thai Iced Tea with your meal and you will not be disappointed. Enjoy and let me know how your...
Read moreThe restaurant was pretty and clean. The chicken sate appetizer with cucumber salad was lovely. The green curry sauce and vegetables were delicious. But my search for good Thai in OKC continues, because the CHICKEN IN MY CURRY was terrible!
I have used frozen chicken many times in home-cooked dishes before, and if you don't marinate it or season it properly, it tastes exactly like what it is: chicken from the freezer. It seizes up and becomes tough when cooked, and if it has been frozen too long after purchase, it has the distinct odor and taste of being "almost bad": not spoiled yet, but teeming with just enough bacteria to make it taste a little different, like 2-day old chicken salad that was delicious on Monday, tolerable on Tuesday, and iffy on Wednesday.
There are two possible scenarios (and there may be more, but there'd surely be health department issues and I hesitate to consider them) that can explain the awfulness of the chicken which defiled my otherwise delicious curry:
Frozen while less than fresh, cooked straight from frozen. Cooked straight from frozen a day or two ago, refrigerated since and tossed into curry in the final stage (considering the taste and the speed of cooking this seems the most likely.)
I couldn't ask for a refund, because my husband and I split the dish and he gobbled it up in spite of the chicken. His tummy was a little off the rest of the day.
I wish I could just try them again, but this particular flavor profile spoke to cheap chicken and corner-cutting freezer usage. I can't be paying $11.50 for meat that tastes like the back of the refrigerator and has the texture of jerky. On...
Read morePARENTS TAKE NOTICE. THEY DO NOT HAVE CHANGING TABLES IN EITHER BATHROOM
We LOVE the food at Panang, but I don't think we'll be returning to the north side restaurant. Our last time in service was awful (which is very unusual for Panang). They took our order, and other than bringing us our food basically ignored us. Our drinks were empty we were considering adding some spring rolls, needed a few napkins. I mean they hat a TON of staff moving around, but they just ignored us. I saw at least one couple walk out for lack of service. It was like pulling teeth to get a refill. To top it all off we discovered they don't have changing tables in either bathroom.
IF YOU HAVE HIGHCHAIRS YOU NEED TO HAVE CHANGING TABLES. It was pouring rain when we were there so changing our toddler in the car was not an option unless we wanted to get soaked. So we had to use a booth in the back. Let's be honest, I have no problem changing my toddlers diaper in the middle of the table. There just comes a point where it's not a big deal to the parents any more. However, the other folks in there don't want to see that. The decent and proper thing to do is provide facilities to do so. By the way Panang, it's about to be a state law that you MUST providing changing tables, so why not get out in front of the law?
The food was impeccable as always, but the lack of service and the lack of basic amenities that all family restaurants should have is very...
