The food was pretty good, enjoyable overall. Be sure to order something yummy. I researched their popular dishes (conveniently populated by Yelp for you) and found that these were living up to the hype: Short Rib Enchiladas, Grilled Avocado Salad, Margarita Flight. The enchiladas were FULL of the most tender, juicy meat- flavor was Good. The enchilada sauce was Good. The enchiladas could have been much spicier and I would have been much happier; still worth ordering, no doubt. The salad had perfectly grilled, juicy green and yellow zucchini, YUM. The salad also had nicely grilled asparagus which was yummy. The grilled avocado was a nice touch, but whatever. The salad had a description of Lime Vinegarette or something, and it didn't taste like that was added to the dish, sadly. It had an overall sweet taste because of the corn- I was very much looking forward to the lime taste.
I didnt personally try the margarita flight, but my partner said they were enjoyable and "really good".
If we had had the room + appetite, we would have also ordered their Crab Cakes, Tres Leches Cake, and a Mexican Corn.
I ordered their Nachos with Steak on an impulse based off of a social media influencer and wish I had not done so. The Steak was good, tender, not chewy- but the flavor was Good at best (I'm looking for Delicious!). Do not base your meal decisions off of one person's suggestions like I did with the Nachos. Do your research and trust that research, like I did with Yelp- worth it.
I'm super glad that I saw their outdoor seating and asked to be seated out there. The vibe is so similar to Mexico City, to eat literally on the side of the road in fenced off seating with music and heaters table side. The ambiance is SO different from sitting indoors. Plus, every table out there had different fresh flowers in small bunches sitting in water- another nice Mexican 'touch'.
(I had written myself a note on our itinerary to call ahead and make a reservation for outside seating, but we arrived and i saw it and knew it was what I wanted...also, I forgot that I had written myself a note to call ahead and make a reservation.)
Our server went above and beyond to help make our toddler feel seen. He easily spoke to us in both English and Spanish in our conversations/orders. He made it a point to state that the dishes usually came out at a fast pace, and we went ahead and ordered our three dishes together (sharing at the table). Everything was brought out at a fast pace. The only thing that I didn't appreciate was the obvious temperature difference between the rice and the beans served alongside the enchiladas. The rice was nearly room temperature and lacking in flavor, meanwhile the beans were bomb in both taste (served in caldo aka broth) and temperature (seemed...
Read moreTac/Quila is located in the heart of Downtown Palm springs. Owned by lawyers Liz and Mark Ostoich who instead decided to move into the hospitality industry because of their love of hosting and food. Tac/quila a mix of history, travel and tequila their made-up word for combining Jalisco style cuisines with specialty tequilas and mezcal. This eatery is modern and hip with extensive décor that favor the street fare and curated cocktails. This restaurant also offers two patios’ although the back patio is a bit more private the front would be more appropriate for a larger crowd and both are dog friendly. Since we were family, we wanted to of course, have it “Family style” and it worked out perfectly. What we ordered; Drinks – Felipe Orlando – “Felipe Orlando“ -- Rosemary Infused Vodka, House Made Watermelon Lemonade Fresh Guava Puree and a Rosemary Garnish Frida Kahlo - Mezcal Gin Blend, Galliano, lemon juice, agave, and orange bitters “Most of life’s struggles can be managed with a cocktail. Or two.” Flight of 4 Margaritas - Flight of 4 Tasting Size Margaritas (Kiwi Mint, Guavamente, Prickly Pear, and Avocado) Who says you have to pick one- try these four! JOEL RICHARD EXTRA ANEJO x2 I really enjoyed the Felipe Orlando, prickly pear and kiwi mint margarita. I personally don’t know much about anejos or mezcals nor do I have the palate for it but my cousin absolutely enjoyed his. Didn’t care much for the Avocado one. SUGGESTION – with all the tequilas served here, adding sangrita to the menu (not sangria, SANGRITA) will complement the flavor of them. A bit of HISTORY… sangrita was invented in Jalisco. =) As for the food… Everything we had was amazing… check out the pics. I was looking forward to the short rib enchiladas unfortunately, this was the only dish lacking flavor. If you’re thinking about it…. Get...
Read moreWhat a dreadful restaurant. Service is atrocious And it’s a complete tourist trap. The food is extremely expensive with very small portions and they don’t believe in any kind of seasoning - Not even salt. We ordered guacamole and salsa, The grilled avocado salad, and a beef fajita. We had to add salt to everything, including the guacamole and salsa. We also ordered the Margarita sampler. After we sat down, we waited 20 minutes before we had to finally ask someone to send over the Waitress. They have plenty of staff but none of them can be bothered. We watched them walking around talking, applying lipstick, handling iPad, etc… we tried to get their attention but they were not interested. One of the servers was carrying plates and cups, and as he was walking, everything was spilling out on the floor. The fajita was $34 and I don’t think there was 4 ounces of beef on the plate. The portion was ridiculously small for the price they were charging. They are very proud of their flour tortillas. It was a piece of cardboard paper. I have never eaten a flour tortilla that was harder or more chewy. Grilled avocado salad for $18 was mostly Romain lettuce. They even charged extra for a few pieces of shredded carrots. There was supposed to be a lime, cilantro dressing, but you couldn’t taste the lime and it was sickly sweet. The best margarita in the sampler was the blackberry and we ordered an extra one but it only arrived after we were already done with our Meal. I do not recommend this restaurant. The bill...
