Used to be one of my family's favorite restaurants to visit, but never again after this time. We follow the steps on the website to get on the waiting list, and the app notified us that we were next in line so we headed inside. No one greeted us, but a group of very busy I guess hostesses stared blankly at us and others who arrived. After we explained we were told by the waitlist that we were next we were told we can wait outside for now. We did not as it was humid and since we were next there was no reason to do so.
We were sat at the back of the restaurant, come to find out right by the restroom which smelled horrible every time the door would open. Two of us were given tea that was clearly made ahead of time as the ice had melted and we were left with a watered down disgusting tea, so we asked to swap out drinks which the waitress did.
One person in our party wanted baked oysters but to have as a meal with everyone else. Instead they were brought their oysters as an appetizer with another appetizer we had ordered for the table to share.
Once all the other food arrived the person with the oysters had finished their food and ordered some onion rings to eat while the rest of us ate.
All of the food was disappointing. My popcorn shrimp tasted like it came in frozen and was microwaved at least twice, the breading was hardly there at all as it had all fallen off. The onion rings ordered by the other person, literally had hardly any onion in them at all, some were even empty strangely. The only good food was the fries.
While trying to eat, we moved some plates to the end of the table for someone to come get, and the busser was to busy watching TV to notice, eventually the poor overworked waitress got them.
Before we had even finished halfway trying to eat, our checks were shoved onto the table. This was the final straw, no one asked if we wanted anything else, we had planned to get some drinks but oh well I guess.
We paid, got some boxes to go and left. It was a very disappointing experience entirely, which was only topped off by the fact that the next morning two out of four people in our party were extremely sick with food poisoning.
We will be be visiting again. Which is sad because we previously had some great vacation memories here. Hopefully things are...
Read moreThis restaurant served us a martini in plastic cups. Well, you should price it like a plastic cup or warn that we don't serve $9 plus drinks in glasses. Stick with serving beer. The bartender doesn't know how to make drinks. I'm sorry, but this place is in business due to its location and proximity to an abundance of high-rise hotels and rental condominiums. The locals may drink here, but the smart ones don't eat here. I owned a place in PCB for 18 years and never stepped foot in this establishment, for good reason. This is Captain D's, but at 3 times the price. I ate here because my friend worked at the Port Authority 25 years ago and remembered ordering a blackened grouper sandwich. We ordered two grouper sandwiches and a grouper plate. By the way, the grouper was the fish of the day, or frozen fish of the day. The so-called grouper was so dry it was an embarrassment to charge $25 and serve it to patrons. The hush puppies were overcooked, dry, and very dark. Three people and a bill of $150. If you are near this area and want to walk to get drunk and don't care about food quality, then this is your place, because you won't have to drive drunk. Otherwise, if you want good food, please drive somewhere else, walk to Pier Park, or take the time to go back across the bridge to Panama City and find Places like Hunt's or The Captain's Table. Last thing, I am a salmon lover. The salmon dinner at Texas Roadhouse is hard to beat for quality and price. I didn't mean to insult Captain D's, and I did. But Captain D's is better. There are at least 25 better places to order seafood up and down the Panhandle than this establishment. Never again, and even if I were a guest of someone's, I wouldn't eat at this place. PCB is slowly losing the name Redneck Rivera, but this establishment is what reminds you of why that name developed and stuck around for so long. Shuckums is a place to drink beer and eat French fries and hamburgers. If that is your desire, you have...
Read moreI stopped in at 5pm and they were somewhat busy and getting busier. I was dining alone so I chose a seat at the bar. The bartender greeted me after a couple of minutes and I requested a menu and ice water with lemon. I got the menu in just a few seconds but then the bartender just forgot about me. They were getting busier, but he neglected me and filled orders for dining room and other bar patrons. After 5 mins I just asked the hostess for a table and was promptly seated and greeted by Heather. Heather is friendly, fast, and efficient. She took my order and in less than 5mins my food was brought out. Unfortunately it was the incorrect meal but Heather took care of that very quickly and brought a new plate. I had a seafood platter with fish, shrimp, scallops (grilled) and fried oysters and sauteed crab cake. I got the coleslaw as my side. All grilled items were very good. A bit on the salty side but good flavor and grilled perfectly. The fried oysters were good but more gummy than crispy. Crab cake was perfect. The coleslaw had good flavor but wasn't cold so I was hesitant to eat it since it was mayo based. However, the hushpuppies were absolutely the worst I've ever had. I though they were just stale but Heather brought me out a couple more. Hushpuppies should be crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. These were a bit gummy and dense. They should really try for a better recipe. The atmosphere was hole-in-the-wall like most of the better seafood joints but parking is a challenge. They certainly know how to turn out the food. I didn't see anyone wait more than a few minutes for their meals. They are priced similar to every other place on Front Beach which is to say a bit pricey. All in all nothing would really attract me back unless to try the oysters (though they don't list any spinach as an ingredient in the Rockefella so not sure why they don't just call...
