I am a repeat guest of the Gilmore properties however, I usually stay at The Osprey. This year we decided to stay at the Driftwood Lodge and I was very dissatisfied. The room size was great but VERY old, the chest kept tilting over and the drawers sliding out and we couldn't use as I was afraid it would turn over on one of the grandkids, the carpet was filthy dirty, my grandchildren's feet were black from walking on the carpet. On the day before we left I put my hand on the wall for support and leaned over to unplug a cord and my hand went through the wall (see picture) and we then checked the wall and the entire wall was very soft and moved with barely a touch due to the air conditioning unit being right underneath and the moisture. I took the picture and was honest with them upon checkout as to what had happened and although there was no negligence on my part they charged me for THEIR negligence in fixing the wall. I will never stay at their property again. When the parents owned this property it was great but now the two daughters run the place and they are letting it go and are not good people to deal with. I am very disheartened by them placing the blame on me when this wall should have been repaired long ago and this should have never happened. And they need to replace the carpet, its horrible. Also when walking to our room the walkway would move because the boarding underneath is so old and needs replacements. I guess someone is going to have to fall through before they fix that as well. I do not recommend staying on the 2nd floor of the Driftwood Lodge. (in the picture see the hole and also look along the bottom portion of the wall, that was very soft and moved to the touch from the moisture of the air conditioner and the paint was coming off) I would have let all this go but the fact they charged me for something they should have repaired prior to anyone staying in this room I felt I needed to share all my dissatisfactions. Also forgot to add that there were black hairs all over the tub and sink in bathroom on arrival. No one in our party has black hair. Looked like they had wiped everything down with a dirty cloth with...
Read moreHome away from home is the best way to describe the Driftwood. I've been staying here every year for almost 10 years. Usual stay is 9 - 10 days. The rooms are cozy, clean, and the beds are comfortable. The kitchen is great and will save you money by not having to eat out. The view is breathtaking from the back deck while sitting on comfortable wooden lounge chairs. The Driftwood is close to Pier Park, Gulf World, Putt Putt, many fantastic restaurants (Angelos), within a few miles of a great zoo, Ripleys, and Wonderworks. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I've only had two problems on different occasions and both were met with quick resolutions. One was the air conditioner which was replaced within 2 hours. The other was the refrigerator which was fixed equally fast. They don't act like nothing is wrong and don't make you feel stupid for calling. I read one review here talking about how easily their "locked" door was pushed open. That sounds like a load of BS. I don't care where you stay, if you leave your room and don't test/push to see if your doors locked, then you're inviting trouble. I guarantee if there is a problem with your lock, the staff will fix it IMMEDIATELY! Please rest assured if you book with the Driftwood you will not be disappointed. Just look at the reviews at how many repeat customers they get. I love it here so much that I bought a tshirt promoting the hotel!! ENJOY PCB AND...
Read moreThis past stay was my 5th time and as long as you don't have any issues it's great. This year the first night that we were there someone broke into our room and stole my wallet and my aunt's purse. The auto-lock on the door on the street side wasn't working and allowed a man to just push the door to open it so in less than 12 hours of being there we had no money, no ID, no credit cards, etc. The customer service was absolutely abysmal. We were without money/credit cards for almost 3 full days and not one time did any of the owners ask if we needed any food or drinks. Had a discussion with one of the manager/owner's and she was hanging her hat on the fact that we didn't use the deadbolt...which wouldn't have been needed if the door was locking properly. In addition, if you use the deadbolt you are unable to get in from the outside as the key doesn't fit the lock. There were a couple of things that really upset me about the customer service. First, in a conversation with one of the manager/owner's she told me that they had refunded our stay but when I went to get the receipt from the front desk they had to process the refund so she had obviously lied to me about the refund already being issued. Second, they absolutely would not admit that they were at fault which since the auto-lock on the door wasn't working it was obviously...
