We have done escape rooms all over the country and this was definitely one of the worst we’ve ever been to. We happened to be walking by the place around 9pm and decided to try it. Initially, it seemed like the staff was ready to go home. I asked if they had any rooms available and was told everything was full for the rest of the night. “Oh wow, you have nothing available at all?” I asked. It was then that she checked and realized they had rooms available at 9:30 and some more after 10. We asked to book the 9:30 room. We seemed to have annoyed her again by asking how to fill out the waivers (admittedly her annoyance was minor and not a deal breaker for us). When we got into the room, props were broken, markers didn’t work, and there wasn’t a clear flow. There were multiple puzzles that we ended up not using at all (a Morse Code device, pipes on a wall with valves, colored lights with numbers that never changed). Randomly, doors would pop open for what appeared to be no reason. Doors would open despite the fact we wouldn’t be actively working on any puzzles. It felt like they were being opened from outside to hurry us along. On the bright side, we finished the room with more than 20 minutes to spare. We then exited into a completely unstaffed gift shop and no opportunity for pictures (which was okay, because by that point we didn’t intend on buying anything or trying to remember this experience). We played an escape room at another facility while staying in Panama City Beach, and enjoyed it so much that we stayed and played 2 more rooms there.
I think the room we played had great potential, we just apparently went at a bad time I guess. After reading some of the reviews, it seems like our experience may have just been a fluke. However, there are definitely better (and less expensive) escape rooms if you look...
Read moreSure, you can escape the room, but can you escape the bad customer service? On Friday, December 30th, I (along with my three younger siblings) visited Royal Escape Rooms Pier Park with the intention of having a fun, friendly, positive experience. Little did I know, our expectations would not be met. Since we had bought tickets in advance, I had signed all of my siblings' waivers in advance (they are all under 18), but I had to sign mine when we arrived- no big deal, right? Wrong. The four of us walked next door to the Axe Throwing place to sign the waiver for the Escape Room. I explained my situation to the employee at the welcome desk, and he directed me on how to sign the waiver online using the store iPad. After a few moments of confusion on my end, I asked the employee if I was signing the waiver for the Escape Room because it said "Axe Throwing" at the top of the waiver. Said employee then VERY rudely and condescendingly stated that "The waiver is for BOTH places", a huge, sarcastic grin plastered across his face. I was so taken aback by his unnecessary attitude that I did not reply and finished signing the waiver. I am aware that the Axe Throwing and Escape Room are connected. I am aware that you need to sign a waiver for both. I do not need to be talked down to when I am clearly confused as to why it only says "Axe Throwing" when I am supposed to be signing for the Escape Room. As for the room, it was fine. The themeing was very immersive and detailed, but I wish it had been more difficult. Royal Escape Rooms and Axe Throwing, do better and make sure your employees...
Read moreWe completed the Morgue and this was our first escape room with this company. It was an awful experience. I'm surprised it doesn't have a lower rating. 1) The staff was very disconnected. No real attempt at being friendly was made when we arrived. When we were allowed to ask for a hint, we either didn’t get a response at all or they would just throw out the answer. Im pretty confident something was left out at the start of our game and they just defaulted to pushing a button (eventually). A game master can really help or hinder the experience and in this case; it was a major hindrance. These folks (on this day) were clearly here to do the bare minimum. 2) There were SOO many hazards (exposed nails/screws, splintered wood, etc.). Someone in our group cut their finger and I almost did a few times. Obviously the theme allows for moments with low visibility; so all care should be taken to ensure safety. How has no one noticed? 3) The flow of the puzzles were pretty silly. One minute we NEEDED to use our phones then the next minute we couldn’t - we had to be told all of that. It feels like lazy story telling with something either completely blatantly out of place and others so obscure that it would have been impossible to figure out. A lot of what we were required to do just didn’t make sense. This one was just all around bad. It was gifted to us as a surprise since we love escape rooms, but had we had a choice? We’d easily run the other way. I have zero confidence in their ability to execute a reputable...
