I’m from out of town and chose this place because the ratings seemed ok and I was craving a seafood boil. The restaurant was quiet, empty, there was maybe one other table there, that should’ve been my first clue. The vibe was not it, there was some quiet flute-like sleepy-time music playing that didn’t add to the fun ocean theme and decor. I can imagine that music playing at funeral or a nerdy festival of some sort.

The waiter was emotionless and not very good at selling up the meal or offering a special or even explaining anything. We knew we wanted a boil and I also ordered catfish. The microwave went off about 5 times before our meal. That was disappointing, is my boil being microwaved or what food is being cooked in the microwave?? Gordon Ramsay would’ve been disappointed, the microwave should’ve been the first red flag.

Our food arrived and so did another table/customer. The boil had a weird flavor like Cajun but not really sure if the sauce wanted to be spicy, sweet, or some other flavor. It gave me sweet and sour vibes but with a mild seafood boil flavor with those Cajun and garlic flavors. It just didn’t taste right for me. We left most of the boil and felt so disappointed that we just threw money away on this meal.

The catfish was breaded beautifully and was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The only issue with the catfish was the lack of flavor and seasoning. The only way to give flavor to my catfish was to use the one/single lemon wedge. That’s all we got, one lemon wedge. I don’t like any other things with my fish so lemon is my only option, but the lack of lemon really made it hard to enjoy the catfish. I wanted to add salt and pepper to help give the catfish some more flavor and of course there was no salt or pepper at our table. The sausage was soft and mushy and looked odd. The waiter didn’t stop by until we were all gone. This entire time, the microwave is going off in the kitchen. I would never come back to this place. I wouldn’t even take a free...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Captain's Choice in Portland and I must say, their Cajun food is absolutely fantastic. The chicken and sausage jambalaya is a standout dish that I highly recommend.

The jambalaya is bursting with flavor and packed with tender chicken and savory sausage. The Cajun spices are perfectly balanced, adding just the right amount of heat without overpowering the dish. The rice is cooked to perfection, with each grain separate and fluffy.

The portion size is generous, making it a great option for sharing or enjoying as a main course. The presentation is also impressive, with colorful bell peppers and onions adding a vibrant touch to the dish.

The service at Captain's Choice is top-notch. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They are more than willing to accommodate any dietary preferences or restrictions.

The restaurant itself has a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a casual meal with friends or a romantic dinner. The attention to detail in the decor and ambiance adds to the overall dining experience.

Overall, I highly recommend Captain's Choice for anyone craving delicious Cajun food. The chicken and sausage jambalaya is a must-try dish that will satisfy your taste buds and leave you wanting more. Don't miss out on this culinary gem...

This is easily a 5 star experience. The decor is incredible, they have an entire projection wall that always has something mesmerizing to see, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS. I'm not even joking. These are probably the best fries I've ever had. I don't know what wizardy they have going on in the back, but it's perfection. The fries are lightly seasoned so the potato itself shines the most but they have mastered a crisp, soft shaped fry. We got the Lobster Roll and the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. I already bragged about their fries, but holy hell do they pull off a delicious gumbo. It's the right amount of spicy heat that gives you a flare but won't make your nose drip. Everything about the gumbo was perfect. The roux was excellent and as someone who has made and messed up his fair shares of roux - this was impressive. The gumbo dish comes with 2 slices of garlic toast that is so good, it almost distracted me from how great the gumbo is. The lobster roll was jam packed with lobster meat that's lightly dressed but that just amplified that lobster goodness.

My only negative thing to say: they've gotta get a cocktail and drink menu going. As soon as they get their liquor license, this is gonna be a popular spot, and I can't wait to see this place become successful.

We...

This place was not crowded at all like i had originally anticipated. I think going to dinner with friends on a thursday was the absolute right thing to do! Aesthetically gave me joes crab shack vibes or old skippers from back in the day, however the food was phenomenal. Probably some of the best Dungeness crab ive have at least in recent memory. We also got the snow crab and again, some of the best crab ive had in recent memory. We got our boil with shrimp, crab, sausage, potatoes, corn, mushrooms and two different seasonings. Garlic and ol bay. You also get to choose your spicy level, mild, medium, hot. We also had a few different appetizers, chicken wings, cole slaw, catfish and fried calamari. My one and only complaint would have to be the calamari, not done well at all and didn't care for the breading. The catfish was done perfectly, seasoned well and breading was tasty and not overdone. Would certainly recommend this place to any seafood lover and would definitely return in the future!

Decided to try this place based on the recommendation that it received online. Those recommendations must be based on the bags or boil that they serve. Sadly we were looking for fried catfish and some collard greens. This is definitely not the place for that. It also seemed like there were several people working but there was only one person working the dinning room area. Like I said this review is only based on the clam chowder and the catfish which was ok but far from the best I have had. The clam chowder tasted like it was from a can. So I definitely would not reccomend going here just for that like I said seemed like they were popular for the bag boil. I feel like the guy working the dinning room was trying but after a few tables came in after he was kinda overwhelmed. The food was mediocre especially after eating at multiple places over the last four days, the service was mediocre and the decor seemed a little old and dated.

If there are two words to describe this place it's "massive portions". Seems like everyone who left Captain's Choice the day we visited had take home containers with them. My wife and I both had lobster rolls with fries, the Misses had sweet potato fries for a dollar extra. The lobster rolls were huge and packed with lobster. We both barely were able to finish our meals and ready for a food coma. They have an extensive menu of boiled seafood that you're able to tailor to your tastes. A couple next to us ordered a boil and split it between the two of them. Be prepared for a lot of food, I'd suggest splitting a meal if you're a lighter eater like my wife and me. Great value for your money if you're a serious seafood fanatic. And another feature we both appreciated was the sink, as you leave, to wash up after you've been scarfing down a ton of seafood with your hands. A nice finish. 😃
