I’m from out of town and chose this place because the ratings seemed ok and I was craving a seafood boil. The restaurant was quiet, empty, there was maybe one other table there, that should’ve been my first clue. The vibe was not it, there was some quiet flute-like sleepy-time music playing that didn’t add to the fun ocean theme and decor. I can imagine that music playing at funeral or a nerdy festival of some sort.
The waiter was emotionless and not very good at selling up the meal or offering a special or even explaining anything. We knew we wanted a boil and I also ordered catfish. The microwave went off about 5 times before our meal. That was disappointing, is my boil being microwaved or what food is being cooked in the microwave?? Gordon Ramsay would’ve been disappointed, the microwave should’ve been the first red flag.
Our food arrived and so did another table/customer. The boil had a weird flavor like Cajun but not really sure if the sauce wanted to be spicy, sweet, or some other flavor. It gave me sweet and sour vibes but with a mild seafood boil flavor with those Cajun and garlic flavors. It just didn’t taste right for me. We left most of the boil and felt so disappointed that we just threw money away on this meal.
The catfish was breaded beautifully and was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The only issue with the catfish was the lack of flavor and seasoning. The only way to give flavor to my catfish was to use the one/single lemon wedge. That’s all we got, one lemon wedge. I don’t like any other things with my fish so lemon is my only option, but the lack of lemon really made it hard to enjoy the catfish. I wanted to add salt and pepper to help give the catfish some more flavor and of course there was no salt or pepper at our table. The sausage was soft and mushy and looked odd. The waiter didn’t stop by until we were all gone. This entire time, the microwave is going off in the kitchen. I would never come back to this place. I wouldn’t even take a free...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Captain's Choice in Portland and I must say, their Cajun food is absolutely fantastic. The chicken and sausage jambalaya is a standout dish that I highly recommend.
The jambalaya is bursting with flavor and packed with tender chicken and savory sausage. The Cajun spices are perfectly balanced, adding just the right amount of heat without overpowering the dish. The rice is cooked to perfection, with each grain separate and fluffy.
The portion size is generous, making it a great option for sharing or enjoying as a main course. The presentation is also impressive, with colorful bell peppers and onions adding a vibrant touch to the dish.
The service at Captain's Choice is top-notch. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They are more than willing to accommodate any dietary preferences or restrictions.
The restaurant itself has a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a casual meal with friends or a romantic dinner. The attention to detail in the decor and ambiance adds to the overall dining experience.
Overall, I highly recommend Captain's Choice for anyone craving delicious Cajun food. The chicken and sausage jambalaya is a must-try dish that will satisfy your taste buds and leave you wanting more. Don't miss out on this culinary gem...
Read moreThis is easily a 5 star experience. The decor is incredible, they have an entire projection wall that always has something mesmerizing to see, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS. I'm not even joking. These are probably the best fries I've ever had. I don't know what wizardy they have going on in the back, but it's perfection. The fries are lightly seasoned so the potato itself shines the most but they have mastered a crisp, soft shaped fry. We got the Lobster Roll and the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. I already bragged about their fries, but holy hell do they pull off a delicious gumbo. It's the right amount of spicy heat that gives you a flare but won't make your nose drip. Everything about the gumbo was perfect. The roux was excellent and as someone who has made and messed up his fair shares of roux - this was impressive. The gumbo dish comes with 2 slices of garlic toast that is so good, it almost distracted me from how great the gumbo is. The lobster roll was jam packed with lobster meat that's lightly dressed but that just amplified that lobster goodness.
My only negative thing to say: they've gotta get a cocktail and drink menu going. As soon as they get their liquor license, this is gonna be a popular spot, and I can't wait to see this place become successful.
