Honestly, I’ve wrestled with myself a lot over this post. In times like these where everyone is spread so thin, I generally opt to give some bad customer service a large dose of grace and chalk it up to someone having a bad day. But really, after trying to reason with staff and management in the moment, and being met with a slew of derogatory and demeaning comments (and profanity) from the staff, I think everyone should hear about our experience at Mr.Ed’s on Put in Bay.
I will preface this by saying that I am a big fan of rules and policies put in place to keep us safe, as long as they are enforced across the board, equally, for everyone. I will also preface this by saying ten minutes prior to this issue, three of us girls were in Mr. Ed’s after leaving the boys to get some cameo pizza. While in Mr.Ed’s the pizza was great, bartenders were lovely and the music was enjoyable. We ate, danced and spent plenty of money there. Positive experience being noted, we made small talk with the bouncer on our way out and went to find the boys in hopes of returning to Mr. Ed’s for more music, dancing and pizza. Upon returning the three of us girls were let right in without issue, given we had talked to the bouncer on our way out minutes prior, and the boys were stopped at the door immediately. Upon realizing something was about to go really wrong, I went back to the bouncer where he was stating there were no backpacks allowed. Understandable— if there weren’t people by the dozens already inside with backpacks and large purses.
One of my friends is a new mom and was trying to enjoy a night with friends for the first time since the baby. Her significant other was carrying her pump in a small, purse sized backpack and was being continually denied entry regardless of how many times he tried to show the contents of the backpack. To be clear, she had NO OPTION to leave this item at home and was continually using it throughout the night. I, the only calm one at this point, tried to reason with the bouncer and explain, as did my friend, whom the pump belonged to, and we were told to leave before they called the police. When the manager arrived, a 50 something year old woman, I tried to reason with her thinking she would be more understanding then a twenty something year old male, and was told specifically that “if she still has to breast pump maybe she should be with her kid and not at the bar”. Directly behind us, was a woman carrying a backpack who had no issue going in “because it was a purse”.
In a time where people are actually starting to normalize feeding a child in public and recognizing all of the difficult/uncomfortable things that accompany being a mom, I was absolutely beside myself that they were denied entry to a restaurant because of a breast pump in a bag. Not only was I absolutely awestruck over the lack of professionalism, but the lack of compassion for a new mom just trying to enjoy one night with friends— WHICH IS TOTALLY NORMAL AND OKAY— like it was any of their business anyways.
I hope at least a few will read this and stand with me in how insulting this is to ALL women, let alone a mom who has no choice but to carry a pump. Regardless of how great the night started in Mr.Ed’s, we will never be back. Hopefully this message will get passed along to the right people and the owners of Mr.Ed’s will be more cognizant of the demeanor and conduct of their employees and “policies” because honestly, it was disgusting to experience and I don’t even...
Read moreMr. Ed's was phenomenal ten or so years ago. I was excited to go back to the place, but it has changed so dramatically, and not really for the better.
Ordering is confusing. The place houses Cameo Pizza, and to my understanding, Cameo deals with food and Mr Ed's does drinks. They are two separate entities with blurred lines. You walk in and seat yourself, and there's a window with red neon that tells you to place and pick up your order there. The issue is that it looks like that window is only for Cameo Pizza, so if you were under the impression that the food was coming from Mr Ed's, you might be inclined to sit there for 10-15 minutes before going to the window to ask.
At the window, you find out you can order food there, but not drinks. Drinks come from the bar, and you pay separately between the two.
Inconvenient, but not too bad until you receive the food. I've gotten bigger portions from a county fair for less money. The food was very akin to cheap frozen snacks you'd find at a dollar tree.
I could complain about the price, but I went during peak season, so I expected expensive. That said, I wouldn't pay off-season prices...
Read moreWe were at Mr Ed's watching the Ohio State and Indiana game. We were sitting at the bar. We ordered chicken chunks.OMG the worst wings I have ever eaten. No taste at all even with hot sauce. We ordered pretzel bites. They had a great taste, but when I went to get a cup of mustard, it was runny like water. The boy that was making pizza changed the bag. Mustard was still runny. We ordered a pizza the night before. IT WAS EXCELLENT. Watch the 2 Male bartenders. We were paying cash. When we paid for drinks the cash went to their tip bucket. Our drinks was not rang up on the cash register one time. I love the atmosphere of Mr Ed's. It has went down hill the last 3 years. We went to the Tree Bar. Very nice. MR ED, I told the young girl that was ringing food orders about the bartenders stealing money. She told me she would tell...
