This is the second time I've been to this location. First and foremost the food is really good, if it wasn't I wouldn't go back, but there are some things I think people should be aware of before going. I've been to both the all you can eat brunch and taco tuesday. Be prepared to wait, we were told worst case scenario it would be an hour and 15 mins, it was closer to 2 hours. Again fine if we'd known that in advance. This isn't something they can control, but it would be helpful for planning.
While waiting we decided to get a drink, bar service was really really slow, only one bartender for the entire bar. We ordered blood orange margaritas, upon receipt discovered they were $20 each, not exactly what I was expecting, maybe cocktails menu would have been helpful. They have a very extensive bar with very very nice tequilas so you absolutely get what you pay for.
After our 2 hour wait we were seated and waiting for the server to bring our bracelets that allow you to get in the taco line, that took quite a while, our server walked by us several times before we flagged her down to get help. We then found out that the $15 covers tacos only, if you want chips and salsa that's an extra $5, it is refillable, but you're at the mercy of your server to take care of that for you. Small rice and beans was $10. So were quickly getting into more and more $$. When getting ready to settle the bill we we re informed the gratuity was already included. For a party of two that didn't even get a water refill I wasn't really keen on being forced a gratuity amount.
There are a lot of things this place does really well, but an evening of tacos for two ended up being close to $90, at no fault of theirs, but it's helpful to know how things operate ahead of time. I'm sure I'll go back, but maybe at a less busy time and order off the menu so I can take my leftovers home with me.
Lastly the churros are not available on taco night, they are spectacular, it's worth going back on a different day just for those.
Updated to add: I found out from reading other reviews that the bar also adds in the 20% tip on Taco Tuesday, which means I tipped the bartender TWICE. That's annoying. If you're going to impose a mandatory gratuity you should inform the customer. Should I have looked more closely at the bill? Yes, that's on me, but heads up for everyone else to do that. Again, nice place, but I don't like sneaky charges. I'm happy to pay, but don't force me to pay 20% for...
Read moreThis was an unfortunate experience. First time I came here was during their all you can eat brunch on the weekend. Definitely had a better experience then, but this time around was not what I expected at all.
First of all, they don't have the handmade tortillas anymore, so that was kind of disappointing.
The major issues this Tuesday were extremely greasy food, bland, salty, and overcooked. They had three choices of meat, with an additional choice of mixed vegetables. I opted for one of each with mixed vegetables on top. Right away I could see the amount of grease coming off of the meat and oozing onto the plate. I added cilantro and onions, salsa, and a squeeze of lime. The first bite was instant grease with very bland flavor. I couldn't even tell what I was eating besides the vegetables and additional toppings - I think that was the barbacoa. The second one was extremely salty and greasy... Pastor? I guessing it was pastor. My final taco was chicken, which had ok flavor, but was extremely overcooked.
I went in for a second round and asked for less "sauce" as the previous round was too greasy, salty, and "saucy" to say the least. Well that didn't happen. I skipped the vegetables this time around and went for a scoop of beans as the beans they served during their weekend brunch were pretty good, sadly there was no rice as that rice was pretty good as well. When I got to my table my plate was full of grease. I tried finishing, but it was just too much at this point.
Hopefully they cook their meats differently as taco meat, at least the kind of tacos most people are used to and seek out here in Sacramento, are not cooked that way. They reminded me of their guisados from the weekend, but not the same taste, texture, or experience.
Overall the only thing that has decent flavor was the tortilla and the Coke, but even the Coke wasn't satisfying as I think I paid almost $6 for a small bottle which was surprising.
I may come back on a weekend, but will definitely opt out of their weekly all you can eat options due to this experience. Hopefully things can change...
Read moreWe came here last with a group of friends about 755pm and the place was half full, we were advised to have a seat on their lounge seats in order for a table to be cleaned. We waitied about 20 mins just to be seated due to how long it took them to clean one table. When seated it took us asking 2 times to get some water and menus as well, plus I notice so many empty tables but all were dirty. The food is okay nothing special for 5$each taco I was expecting more but I could get the same level of food for less at a street taco stand with homemade tortillas as many street taco venders actually have them. The service was very slow and it seem to bother them when we pointed out that our chips that agin cost additional to get were stale. The drinks are good but weak compared to other restaurants and lots of ice added to them, they need to focus on their customers service more and less chatting within the workers, and they should be able to handle to keep the place looking clean. I feel they are so focused on the bar area of the place instead of the back dinning area that it showed last night. Also it was 910pm when they told us we could no longer order anything else of the menu the location closes at 10pm, which again I been to many other restaurants that I’ve always been able to order food until we want! I can say the only good thing about this experience was our waiter was trying his best with what he was able to because even some food was unable from the menu. Maybe I will give this place a try again in few months and see if ut...
