Delicious food and the friendliest service! They’re under new management, so they’re working really hard to turn things around — and it shows! The place is impeccably clean and the food is amazing. The owner even made sure to put photos of the food on the menu in case someone isn’t familiar with Mediterranean food. You should also check out their website. So much care and detail was put to it, with photos and descriptions for every item on the menu.
We got the spicy beef/lamb gyro meal that came with a side of fries and a drink, which came out to $16.99. With the generous portions they provided, that’s price is definitely a steal. The meat was tender and flavorful. It had a nice kick that went along well with the tangy tzatziki and chutney sauce. Their waffle fries were cooked to perfection. So crispy and well seasoned. I could eat an entire platter of it!
I also ordered the mango lassi. I’ve tasted a ton of lassi, and this was the most unique one I’ve had. Apparently, it’s made in-house, and I wasn’t surprised to hear that because it certainly tasted homemade. The spices were strong, just how I like it. I wish it came in a bigger cup!
The best part of our dining experience was the staff. They made us feel like valued customers. They had a self-serve condiments and utensils station, but they didn’t even let us get up because they served us those as well. They were also open to feedback and were eagerly waiting to hear what we thought of the food. We told them to not change a thing because everything was perfect — and we meant it. This is our new...
Read moreMy favorite Mediterranean restaurant closed down during the height of COVID. I've tried a number of good places since that specialize in Mediterranean food, but none come close to King's Halal Mediterranean Food. King's is located in the heart of downtown Sacramento and is easily accessible by foot, as it's about a 4 minute walk from the nearest light rail station (a 5-minute walk from where I work).
The restaurant is extremely clean and very well-kept. The service was great: I was greeted the moment I entered and I exchanged laughs with the gentleman at the counter while placing my order. The food was incredible: I ordered the combo platter and the lamb, beef, and chicken were all seasoned and cooked to perfection. I was worried I'd mess up a good thing, but halfway through my meal I decided to drizzle a little chutney and tzatziki on the meat.
The chutney tasted a bit like vinegar, and mixed with the creamy taste of the tzatziki sauce, it gave the food a savory flavor and took my meal to another level. I'll definitely be back soon to continue working my way through the rest of their menu, and I'd advise anyone reading this to stop by King's Halal...
Read moreI stopped by for a late lunch after walking around the Capitol. It's a bit of a hole in the wall (with the fanciest napkin holders I've ever seen) but I really liked the food. I got the gyro salad which had no dressing but the meat and seasoning was so tasty it didn't need any! My girlfriend got the gyro Philly sandwich, which has a twist of added cheese sauce and grilled peppers and onions, which I thought was delicious. I mean a gyro with cheese sauce? How can you go wrong? The ding on stars is because the facilities need work. Walking in on a rainy day, we saw a bucket by the door that we thought might be for umbrellas, but it was actually catching water leaking from the ceiling. There were multiple discolored ceiling tiles and some rusted light fixtures, and a second leak father back. Maybe that's an issue with the land lord, but the rust indicates a chronic issue that needs to be addressed to avoid more serious issues. Fixing the roof, replacing the water damaged fixtures/ceiling tiles, and a fresh coat of paint would...
