This shop was one of the cutest rock shops I’ve been to in the Salt Lake Valley area! There were so many amazing polished, cut and tumbled gemstones and minerals as well as some really great fossil specimens! I loved looking through the owners personal collection that’s displayed in the shop too! There are so many unique and rare finds! I spoke with the owner briefly, Kathy, and she’s such a gentle soul! She spoke with me about a really neat children’s rockhounding book she had in the shop, and we talked a little bit about wonderstone and pigeon blood agate! I bought a couple of tumbled pieces, but my favorites that I brought home were the blood stones! They’re gorgeous! I’ll definitely be back!

Walked by the window of this cute shop and was like, oh my, what have we here??? My friend and I were overwhelmed by the charm of this glittering nook as well as Kathy’s warmth and enthusiasm — not to mention the cozy scent of her delicious soup of the day. I purchased these small geometric star stones; all of my children now want their own set, but I’ve emphasized that these are mine-all-mine! I love fiddling with them and thinking about my dreams. I will definitely be back to the shop for more stars for my littles (they want them as rewards for learning their piano lesson pieces), for soup, and for coffee. Lovely downtown “gem” well worth a regular visit!

Kathy was so welcoming showing us around her shop! We got a coffee and chai and she even asked if there was anything she could add to make the drinks taste better for us after she made them… they were delicious! Her collection of minerals is very impressive. She gets many pieces from local rockhounds and people who find their own pieces, as well as collecting them herself! We bought a couple of crystals to add to our collection from here and are amazed at the quality and care of each piece. This is not your everyday crystal shop, this is the BEST place in salt lake! We highly recommend checking it out and we will be back!

Holy goddess this place is out of this world! I've never before been to a shop that's this inviting, full of love, whimsy, and wonder. I've also never found a shop with such good prices for crystals and minerals!

Both the drinks and the display of crystals and plants are remarkable, I've been reccomending the shop to everyone I know. Also the best chai I've had in the whole state.

Kathy is the most personable, sweet human I've encountered in a very, very long time. She's so knowledgeable and heartfelt, very passionate, and holds a genuine love for what she does with years of experience. Not to mention just how many crystals she owns, as well as fossils, plants, and other goodies in between to peruse.

If you're in SLC, if you're an SLC local, if you're visiting, if you love coffee plants and crystals, make this a regular stop in your day to day, you won't regret it. Much love to Kathy and all...

Kathie is so dear to me, a kindred spirit & amazing force of nature, I found precisely everything I needed in her sweet shoppe (& angelic presence). “From the Ground Up” inspired me in many ways, & I’m grateful for its existence in this valley. She opened in February & I feel we’ve been sleeping on this gem. Ahem. Prior to venturing in, I had walked past many times, oft in a hurry or telling myself I know better than to turn to retail therapy - or so I hope… in all truth, however, FTGU is like a lil slice of home, tucked away in plain sight, equipped with magical objects & the best Café drinks I’ve had since moving to SLC, & I’m a regular everywhere. (She says it’s bc she gets good beans & true but It’s bc of the love)

Coffee? Plants? Rocks? Gold. Ty Kathie. Aho....
