I’m a food blogger and had to come into Habitat Coffee Shop when I saw their cotton candy coffee on a friends page. I had no idea the food would be the best breakfast food I’ve ever had! I’ve been blogging for five years & been to over 300 restaurants for collabs in different states and countries. My friend who went with me, is also a travel blogger, and said the same thing about the food quality! I also loved the spaces decor and the different seating options from window sill seating, on the floor pillows to lounge on, regular tables, and couches. We got the cotton candy coffee, the s’mores frapp, avocado toast, bacon and ham sandwich, and salmon bruschetta. EVERYTHING WAS BEYOND DELICIOUS! The service was amazing and we had a great time! I HIGHLY recommend this place and I will be back to Utah just to eat here again.

Slow kitchen service - came here vs food truck options to order the vegetables borsheta w fries and waited over an hour to get food and quality is questionable in the food was so salty almost inedible, luckily we could tap the fries to get off majority of salt off to eat.(see photo) Beer on tap is decent and what Shades is know for but the slow kitchen service detracted for any enjoyment when I saw other tables who arrived after we did getting food before my table. They don't wait tables so we had to order drinks and food from the counter/bar. But i did see some staff touching base with other tables around us. Bathroom cleaniness was marginal and they were out of toilet paper in all but one stall and not paper towels to dry hands after wahing. Not sure there's any enticement to come back here.

I recently visited Shades bar and had a disappointing experience due to an over aggressive bouncer. This is not the first time that I have heard of such incidents at this bar. In fact, several previous reviews from other customers have also mentioned the same issue.

It appears to be a recurring problem at Shades that the bouncer on duty has a tendency to become overly aggressive with customers. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and creates a hostile environment for patrons who are simply trying to enjoy a night out.

During my visit, I witnessed the bouncer using excessive force and intimidation tactics on several patrons. This not only made for an uncomfortable experience but also left me feeling uneasy about my own safety.

Other customers have also reported similar experiences with the bouncer at Shades, which leads me to believe that this is a systemic issue that needs to be addressed by the management. The continued presence of an over aggressive bouncer is causing customers to avoid visiting this bar, and that's a shame given that it could be a great place to have a good time.

In conclusion, I would not recommend visiting Shades bar until this issue is resolved. An over aggressive bouncer is a major red flag and can have serious consequences for the safety of patrons. The management at Shades needs to take this matter seriously and ensure that all customers are able to have a positive and safe experience at their establishment

The only good thing of the night I would recommend from shades is the steak fries they are really good and for $5 you can’t beat it!

I understand that you have expressed your position regarding the recent incident that occurred at your establishment. However, as the owner of the bar, you have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all patrons and staff. It is concerning to hear that you are not willing to take accountability for the actions of your staff. As the manager, it is your duty to ensure that all employees are trained and equipped to handle difficult situations in a professional manner. Furthermore, the presence of a police report suggests that there was indeed an incident and it is important that you take it seriously. Ignoring or denying the events that took place not only undermines the credibility of your business, but it also creates a potentially dangerous environment for your patrons. It is crucial that you investigate the matter and take appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. In conclusion, I strongly urge you to take this matter seriously and demonstrate your commitment to providing a safe and responsible...

I recently had the misfortune of encountering an extremely aggressive and rude bouncer at this local establishment. This individual, whose behavior was a hazard to both the customers and the community, displayed a complete lack of professionalism and control.

From the moment I approached the entrance, I was met with hostility and condescension. The bouncer was shouting at customers, using excessive force to remove those who were not compliant with the rules, and generally creating a tense and dangerous environment. There are plenty of videos making their rounds through social media that will show this behavior since the owner refuses to take any form of accountability and instead puts the blame onto their customers.

It was clear that this individual derived pleasure from exerting their power over others and showed no regard for the well-being of those around them. Their aggressive behavior only escalated as the night went on, leading to several physical altercations and an overall hostile atmosphere.

I would not recommend this establishment to anyone, given the clear danger posed by this individual who is employed as a bouncer. It is unacceptable for a person in a position of authority to behave in such a manner and it is imperative that they be held accountable for their actions. Three males attempted to go in and the bouncer had told them to pay $40 to get in. Once they asked why seeing as their google business profile shows their hours of operations the bouncer then proceeded to get aggressive, because they were confused about the cover. ( See previous reviews from other individuals who have had, or witnessed a similar experience with this bouncer).

In conclusion, I cannot stress enough the importance of avoiding this establishment and the bouncer in question, the owner refuses to take any form of accountability or show remorse to those which shows a huge part of their character. Their aggressive and rude behavior is not only a hazard to the community, but also a reflection of the lack of professionalism and respect that is all too common in the hospitality industry. I hope in the near future there are changes made as this place has a lot to offer, and has a lot of potential, but not if things continue to go this way.

This establishment takes the crown as the worst, most disgusting, and outright dangerous place I’ve ever given my patronage.

Does anyone enjoy the smells of vomit, feces, and urine? What about many instances of severely inebriated minors spilling drinks on your clothes? Dancing is fun for many, but do you like when songs abruptly transition every 20 seconds? I, personally, really love having my bank account drained when attempting to order a vodka soda, don’t you? Does you mind touch the void when waiting in the numerous lines throughout the interior and exterior? Do the eyes of the (vape in hand and mouth) manager glare back in the darkness? What about the blood covered entryway, does that scare you? Was that threatening feeling; as if the bouncer was about to punch you while checking IDs just me? Did the bouncer, unprovoked, punch your friend too? Apparently, this is the only bar in salt lake where people aren’t allowed to ask why they are being denied entry, they’ll simply receive a concussion; given to them by none-other than the for-said bouncer; is this a place you would like to visit? Is it normal for a bar to encourage assault? Is it normal for a bar to lie to abused patrons? Is it okay for bouncers to grope and beat people who are trying to dance with their friends? Why do they laugh and accept anyone into this bar, regardless of age? Why do they employ known felons with violent records? Is it okay to have these people checking your friends, children, and loved-ones id’s?

This review comes from many different experiences that have had while attempting to dance with friends at this bar. These aren’t unique or uncommon experiences. Ask your friends, your kids, anyone you know who has been to this bar: “did you enjoy your time at shades on state”? Their answers will disgust you. I’m shocked this place has over three stars. It simply should be shut down.

Shades on state, please close your doors for...
