It’s unfortunate that I have to post this review, especially since I thought issues were resolved and I was honestly impressed with how the owner (Kirk) handles things.. however, he offered a generous solution, then went ghost and hasn’t responded to me in 5 days. I had several issues when I went there last Tuesday, where my bill ended up being $55 higher than it should’ve been due to Kirk and his staff not being on the same page. Instead of charging $4 for our margaritas that were advertised as $4 for Twisted Tuesday, I was told they were $10 after we had already paid. I asked how the bill even got that high, because it didn’t make sense and I didn’t see an itemized receipt. I was told that the flier was wrong, the margaritas aren’t $4, and the owner is never on the same page with the bar and offers incorrect specials. That’s my fault?.. But then according to Kirk, it was the staff who were incorrect, as the margaritas ARE $4 on Tuesdays. I tipped our waitress $16 on an $80 bill, only to find out the next morning that there’s an automatic 20% gratuity charge on every bill. This wasn’t communicated, but apparently there’s a paper taped to the wall behind the bar inside.. we were seated outside. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I actually tipped her $32 in total, when the bill itself shouldn’t have been more than $41 not counting tax or tip. I paid $96 for 4 “$4” margaritas and two meals ($12 and $13 each), which again, would be $41. Adding a $16 tip to that still would’ve only been $57. Instead of leaving a negative review, I found Kirks email in the reviews and emailed him personally to discuss. Of course he was “sooo sorry” and “very upset.” He said he was going to refund my entire bill and give myself and my cousin two $50 gift cards for the inconvenience. I thanked him and told him no, I don’t need a full refund, as I did eat and drink at his establishment, and I asked about refunding half instead. It’s been 5 days and still no response. I sent a follow up email two days ago and nothing. He’s had plenty of time to respond to new reviews though. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s one thing to act like you care about customer satisfaction and making things right, but to actually act on it is another. I’m also friends with one of the cocktail waitresses and was informed that he sent some communication out to them, saying there was a customer who was “very upset about her $4 margaritas not being $4 and now he HAS TO refund her entire bill in order for her to take down her 1 star review.” That’s odd, seeing as I hadn’t even left a review, I was very nice, and he’s the one who said he was going to refund my entire bill. I never even threatened a bad review. I told him I’d rather speak with him directly instead of leaving a review which is why I emailed him, but here we are. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m honestly so disgusted by how this situation has been handled. Not only is he lying and manipulating his customers, but he’s apparently doing the same to his staff. Take accountability and get YOUR staff on the same page as you, rather than placing the blame on your staff and offering refunds you aren’t going to follow through with. Keep your money and maybe put it towards some proper training, Kirk.

Right. Start off with location. Whoa. Parking is a little squishy, but really worth the parking Hunger Games. The bar itself is tucked away, set back from the street. It's like stumbling into a slice of the normal world within this city. Beautiful outside, was really anticipating good things. Walking in, greeted by staff clearly happy to be working there. We had nice cocktails and beer, good selection. The food really truly lived up to the gastropub moniker. Incredible. Onion rings. Who gets exited about onion rings. Um.... Yeah. Unicorn slices battered in fairy coating. That alone was worth the parking. Move on to a wildly unexpected treat: deep fried breaded portobello mushrooms. Again, always a risk with fried mushrooms, sometimes watery, sometimes like eating leather. These were sublime. My husband ordered a Mac and cheese burger. Good lord. It was a work of art. Almost a crime to eat it, almost like taking a bite of the Mona Lisa. Incredible. You'd think that was it for a review. Nope. The proverbial cherry on top was meeting one of the owners: Brad. He came over, introduced himself and *sat down to chat with us*. Ok aside from being a super duper person, ok. I can stop there. Super nice guy, clearly passionate about his bar. Highly recommend checking this place out. Shop local-eat local.

Fantastic service and delicious food! We sat on the patio with our dog and enjoyed watching a seemingly endless parade of people getting graduation or engagement photos taken. The architecture of the alley is just so photogenic, and the weather was amazing. The servers were so nice to our dog and brought out some water for her. I had been a little worried that we'd end up inhaling a lot of cigarette smoke on the patio on a Saturday evening, but anyone who smoked stood far away from us and being there at 7 pm meant there weren't a lot of people there. We live just one mile away, so we enjoyed the walk there and back. This was a great escape after a long week!

This is listed on the crowd sourced site “Bring Fido” as a great place to bring pets (with lots of supporting photos showing happy pups on site) but it is NOT dog friendly. They don’t allow dogs anywhere on the premises, not even outdoors. (See note below) Edited: I’ve (privately) reached out to the owner regarding his comment on my previous post, I’d really like to give this place a try. I’ll update if I hear anything more regarding their dog policy on the patio. (See update below) Edited: I really wanted to love this place! Their motto “safest place in Salt Lake City” is really a great message, unfortunately, after giving Twist another try (thanks to the owner reaching out after my first review) I am unable to. We went back and sat outside, server brought us our drinks and water for our pup. Then we ordered our food (BBQ tips and a shrimp pasta dish) and waited. A while later we were informed that there was no pasta ready and would we mind waiting. “Sure” we said and relaxed while enjoying our drinks. About 45 minutes later the chef came out and nicely apologized saying now that the pasta is ready, there actually isn’t any BBQ tips anywhere and that there was no prep completed and he was all alone. After several hours (and we were trying not to get frustrated with the waitstaff) we decided to eat somewhere else.

Ended up getting a microwave meal from Whole Foods. 🙃

Thanks Kirk for trying, just didn’t work out. It’s clear that everyone wanted for this to work out, but they weren’t prepared or able to make...
